So was Congress apparently. They were too busy keeping Trumps attention elsewhere. There's blame to go around.

Yeah congress fricked up royally too, especially the congressmen that sold stocks after being briefed on corona and then went out to the public saying there was nothing to worry about. This includes R's and D's. They belong in jail.

Including but not limited to every fricking retail establishment and restaurant that has been forced to close, and the employees previously employed there who cannot pay their rent, mortgages, bills, etc.

How about we give happy medium a shot instead of utter overreaction insanity.

Start with requiring older people to quarantine (I know others get the virus but start with the most at risk group)

Allow restaurants and other retailers to remain open but strongly suggest/enforce space restrictions among people.

Allow offices to remain open and give people the option to work remotely if they are not comfortable

Perhaps nightly curfews

Restrictions can get progressively increased or decreased according to whatever happens

Just off the top of my head. I'm sure that a group of people smarter than me could put their heads together and come up with a plan.

CDC overall stats as of 15 minutes ago were 81% mild, 14% hospitalized, 5% critical.

It's probably closer to

96% no symptoms to mild
3% hospitalized
1% critical

3:50 mark. President Trump, at a rally in South Carolina, says "it's their new hoax. We have lost nobody to corona virus in the United States."

The problem is there is a 7-14 day delay, so once you realize things are getting better, they are going to get a lot worse for the next week or two.

Thats why you lock everything down first, control it, develop testing, then let off restrictions, you can't put the genie back in the bottle.

Perhaps nightly curfews

I am still trying to figure out why cities are doing nightly curfews.

I don't disagree with you necessarily but we need instant feedback testing readily available nationwide for this to work

I am 61 and to an extent I agree with this. However, its not really about age, its about a weakened immune system. So generally if you are over 70 your immune system is not what it used to be. But also, you have to include Diabetics, Cancer treatment patients and other similarly immune deficient people. This is where it gets more complex. How are you going to quarantine from your spouse if they are diabetic and you have been around people all day long many of which have the virus?
