% of positives in the hospital

I started a thread on this yesterday, but the JBE thread has me asking the question again: What percentage of positive cases are requiring hospitalization? I am starting to believe that this information is being withheld on purpose. We now have 157 cases here in AL. Do we have 50 people in the hospital for this or 5? Because if all but a few are home sleeping it off and taking Tylenol it impacts my view of this thing and the counter measures we should be taking.

Of course it is

Nashville mayor said this morning the city has 179 positive cases, 1 death, 2 hospitalized.

It's going to be a little over the percentage of people 50 and over. Give or take.

I think the current percent of positives requiring hospitalization is over 50% but that’s a terrible thing to look at right now bc we are just getting the testing going for people that have milder symptoms. By the end of the week, it should be closer to 20-30%

Strange. All the sky screaming hospital workers on the board make it seem like we are already overwhelmed.

A lot more than you will ever know. Politics has a lot to do with it. Stay home. Don’t risk exposure to people that can’t handle the virus

I see 20% are requiring hospitalization. But these are cases which have a positive c19 test. I honestly don't think this is worse than any cold unless you are 65+ or have some debilitating respiratory issue.

I think the global percentage is 18-20% require hospitalization.

The worldometer is showing that overall cases considered "mild" range from 95-95%.

The anecdotal stuff I have heard has been that 85%+ are simply being sent home. I'd like some solid info on this because I think it is important and puts this in the proper context. It can be easily answered with precise numbers.

There is a CDC report that's a few days old now which found a 12% hospitalization rate for cases in the US as of March 16.
Even if the hospitalization rate turns out to be one percent, that's enough to absolutely swamp hospitals once you start talking about tens or hundreds of thousands of people contracting the virus.

Of the 400 people tested at the MC drive thru, we have had 3 positives. We currently have 3 Covid-19 patients at Bluebonnet.

The worldimeter data is BS

I also want to know the % being hospitalized. I suspect it is less than 10%. My wife has it and was pretty sick. She had upper respiratory symptoms. She was immediately sent home, NO MEDICINE prescribed, bed rest, and quarantine. That's it. SO i'm questioning how the hospitals are being overwhelmed. I'm certainly sympathetic to the people exposed as my wife has been really sick, but apparently not hospitalized sick.

Plus we have been so slow this past week and the ED has been empty. Maybe the calm before the storm?

I am 100% positive that the majority of answers given for this question are complete BS because no one knows. Have fun and die. It's gonna happen.
