Moose is a nine year old St. Bernard mix who came up a bit limp after a run in the snow a few weeks ago. No major injuries but ever since he’s starting to slow down and is showing signs of arthritis.
Any supplements y’all would recommend? He’s already on a good diet and exercises daily although I belt his running days could be over.
Thanks in advance.

I buy the Nudges Wellness Chicken treats from WalMart
The have joint support built in
Made in the USA
Not sure how much it helps but it can’t hurt
Ask the vet what they recommend, mine said to use the people glucosamine for my American Bulldog
It made a noticeable difference

Rimadyl - Its an NSAID (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) created specifically for issues like your dog is having. It will help a ton, but I've always tried to give them to my dogs as needed, rather than daily maintenance.

Thanks. We’re headed there Saturday. Trying to get ahead of it if at all possible.

Cosequin for dogs if he’s got mild arthritis. Your vet will tell you. I use Cosequin on our horses. Stuff is legit.

I’ve spent thousands on miracle supplements and they work better as a preventative. Once those bigger dogs go down or show signs of slowing down the vets are pulling on your heart strings.
I put my 13 year old Great Dane down the week of Christmas this year and am dealing with my 11 year old Great Dane Showing signs of slowing down. We buy whatever the vet recommends but I haven’t seen a difference once they really start to decline.
I start them on joint chews about the age of 7 or 8 which seems to help but the pain pills them give seem to slow them down if they aren’t showing any real pain.

Our dog, also Moose, used Loxicom. It is a liquid NSAID and was prescribed for one dose every 24 hours or as needed. We gave it to him pretty much every other day. He was on it for over a year, and it improved his mobility significantly.
But, for sure ask your vet for both prescription and over the counter options. It is good to get an idea of the arthritis damage early and tailor the treatment to the progression.
Good luck to the pup! Hope something helps.

If they try to sell you a supplement from their office buy the smallest quantity, one our vet sold us years ago was much cheaper on Amazon
Chewy is another option to price shop

Also, think out of the box for ways to make life and getting around easier for him.
We built a small ramp up the front steps for ours, granted he was chihuahua. We kept him from jumping as much as possible until he finally figured out it was best if he didn't. A good, warm bed is helpful, particularly for large dogs. Little things can help alot.

Had a Golden who we put down at 15. The last years of her life we had her on Meloxicam and Tramadol and it helped her.

This my man. You can get CBD treats for your lil buddy. I had my 17yo on them for a couple of years and they really helped her.

A high quality CBD oil could be helpful. Not kidding.

You ever give him a beer?

Our lab was on Rimadyl and Adequan, which is a monthly injected glucose supplement, for the last 6 years of his life. It can get very pricey.

Acupuncture and a holistic vet. I'm far more of a believer in western medicine, but I've personally seen acupuncture and related holistic diet changes work.

My vet recommended glucosomine chewables.

If it is minor arthritis and the muscles are starting to waste, we had really good luck with underwater treadmill therapy. Our dog was able to build her strength back.
We did this in combination with supplements etc..
