Buyer cancelled check, what are my options

I sold something to a guy through facebook marketplace. Worked with him more than I should have and sold at a very good price. He wrote a $3k check and I accepted it because I kind of knew who he was and where he worked. Didn't really know him other than randomly doing business where he worked. Today he asked to return the item and I'm not really interested in taking a return. Just found out he put a stop payment on the check. What are my options here? I sold at a low offer because I wanted to use that money elsewhere and already started that process. He will return the item, but I still think that's bullshite. My concern now is he stops payment and destroys the item.

Thats theft. Call the police.
Happened to someone I know minus the call and ask for return part. The police went and arrested the buyer at his work. It got cleared up real quick.

Nothing you can do. FB is not going to help either.

Take the item back and learn your lesson. No matter who they are, never take a personal check on stuff you’re selling.

Just put the Fuel's and dorky tires back on your 07 Silverado, Teddy. Lesson learned.

You never accept a check is your first screw up. Second is you should have cashed it right away, as in met him at the bank and deposited it. Then it’s against the law.
He told you he cancelled it? In that case he’s got you unless you want a huge legal hassle over $3000.

Is there a Sonic nearby? Only option at this point is to tell him to meet you at Sonic to collect your return and then you'll need to beat his arse.

Seems like a pretty significant difference in the two

Accept the return and relist it.

this has been for sale for a few months. Dont feel like doing it again. Already basically spent some of the money. Not like it'd kill me to not make the sale, but I typically don't buy one toy unless I sell the other and this guy is f**king that up for me.
cCalled his bank and they said he did attempt a stop payment, but it was not successful. Said I should try to deposit again tomorrow. I already deposited and it just shows pending. Don't know why I'd need to deposit again. That part confuses me.
Now my wife just wants me to take it back to not deal with it. I am against it on principle. Not going to give in to a piece of sh*t who cancels a check.

Did you give him a receipt? Did he sign it?
Any evidence this exchange occurred?.

text exchange and description written on the check as to what the purchase was for.

Do you even notice $3k in terms of your accounts and portfolio?

Anytime you sell anything of value, the best practice is to always fill out a Bill of Sale. Include in it the item, terms of sale, "all sales final" agreement, etc. Whether it is a cash deal or a check or a PayPal purchase, fill out a Bill of Sale. It will save you headaches in the future.

Wait, you started to spend money you expected from the check before you even attempted to deposit the check from a semi stranger.
That’s a special kind of dumb.

Where would this hold up?
Fantasy Island?
So you are too stupid to do business and it's the other guy's fault?
