Bon Ton on Magazine is closing at the end of the day on March 6th. Owner's are selling to the owner of Chophouse. Restaurant may reopen next year.

Wayne Pierce (owner) and his wife are retiring.

Hopefully in a more accessible location for those who do not work in the CBD.

Whoa. I read this wrong and thought Le Bon Temps on Magazine, the bar, was closing. I had a small heart attack.

I have not been in years, but the Bon Ton was always one of the consistently excellent restaurants in N.O.. They made the definitive etouffe and incredible bread pudding. It was always a great place to take visitors for a true N.O. experience.

As I wrote in response to another thread, this makes me

Knew the family when growing up eons ago in New Orleans. Nicest people and enjoyed going there with my dad for lunch when I used to visit him at work.

Disappointed I won't be able to make it back home before they shut it down.

I suspect they were sold along with the business and the building. Whether the new owner serves them, who knows.

I'm completely heartbroken about this.

Damn. I used to work across the street. Had many, many lunches there. Took many customers there for dinner. The pan broiled soft shell crabs and oysters were my favorites. Sad day indeed.

Very glad I was able to grab lunch there last year. I'd weigh 300 lbs if I worked within walking distance of that place.

Never had a bad meal or bad service there. Softshell Crab Alvin was great.

I've never been and managed to get a table tonight. Besides the crab au gratin, what should I get?

Classic spot, albeit one that really could have used a refresh.

Crawfish bisque. Etouffee is good, too, but I have hard time not getting the au gratin. Rum Ramsey-I lament that I never ordered it. I know that many people really like that drink.
