Residents of southwest Atlanta complain of "retail racism"

Maybe high-end retailers just don't see a viable market?

Parts of southwest Atlanta are home to some of the most affluent, prominent, and educated African-Americans.
Ann Pope has lived in the upscale neighborhood “The Cascades" for the last 15 years.
“I love my neighbors, I love the walkability of my neighborhood,” Pope said.
But she does not love her choices for shopping and dining in Southwest Atlanta.
quote:
“In terms of retail, it’s limited,” said the senior project coordinator.
Three miles away from Pope, there’s Greenbriar mall with Macy’s as the only department store, and Camp Creek Marketplace is six miles away.
There is a Kroger grocery store east of I-285 on Cascade Road and a Publix grocery store west of I-285. Some nearby strip malls include staples like McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A, and Applebee’s.
If Pope and her husband want to go to their favorite stores and restaurants, they have to hope and pray for good traffic considering they have to drive 14 miles to Atlantic Station and about 20 miles to Lenox Square Mall.
quote:
“I think that it is racism,” said Council member Overstreet of developers. “All they do is look at a zip code and decide what they'd like to put there."

You can take the person out of the culcha, but you can't take the culcha out of the person
And how much shopping are they doing?
You have a Kroger and Publix very close, plust the mentioned fast food restaurants. What the hell else are you shopping for on a regular basis that this is a problem and not able to be solved online?

Only the nicest suburbs have Gucci stores and whatnot

Lenox Square Mall.
Been around since the 50's and the anchor stores have been around much longer than 15 years.
She literally CHOSE to live far away from the place she is complaining about.

Should have picked a neighborhood closer to her favorite restaurants and stores. Is this that fricking hard?

Instead of crying about not being able to give your money to white people why don't you open your own retail and rake in the cash since the demand is so high?

quote:
Google Cascade Heights and you are soon introduced to the Peyton Wall of 1962 erected by Atlanta Mayor Ivan Allen on the corner of Peyton and Harlan Roads to keep blacks out of the mostly white Peyton Forest neighborhood. Dubbed "Atlanta's Berlin Wall", the action quickly became a flashpoint for the high racial tensions in the city and ignited a national firestorm of protests.
quote:
The barricade stood for 72 days before a court ordered it removed; but it left an indelible mark on race relations and transformed the city forever.

No no no, she wants these stores and restaurants, which pre-date her moving into her neighborhood, to relocate themselves to be closer to her.

That's why some stick to wholesale racism. It's cheaper, more convenient, and sometimes you can get the same thing under the generic "democrats" name.

It’s easier to give customer service to people who aren’t on the phone all the time. Certain cultures stay on the phone a lot and it’s really hard to help someone who:
1.) isn’t listening
2.) cuts you off to talk on their phone
I would gladly help them once they got off, but if you help someone before them while they are on the phone...you my friends are RACIST!

Theres a correlation here... malls built in one neighborhood but 20 years later it's a totally different neighborhood...I can't call exactly what it is bit it seems like there is something there...

Publix is a 5 minute drive away, and the mall is a 9 minute drive. Camp Creek Marketplace is an 11 minute drive.
What exactly is the issue?

She thinks Lenox Mall, one of the more upscale venues (when it isn't overrun by culcha riding up there on the Marta) in the country, should move closer to her because muh racism.

If they could make money putting high end retail in SW Atlanta, they would. The developer can't force the an owner of a high end restaurant to demand and lease a space there.

Only one color matters in retail. Green. If there was money to be made in her neighborhood, stores would be there.

OH EM GEE. 14 miles? The fricking horror. Crybaby
Posted on 2/20/20 at 2:10 pm to VolsOut4Harambe
So she thinks that stores like Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Neiman Marcus should open a 2nd store just for her convenience because she is only 14 miles away?
