Alright, I’ve been doing a little research.
First off, that area has everything any other suburban area has.
Secondly, they’re acting like it’s Buckhead or something. Looking at Google Maps, that area looks like the Westbank of New Orleans. Filled with shitty rundown strip malls.
And if you look at the real estate, yeah, there are some fairly nice houses here and there, but most of it is just your average run of the mill suburb at best.
So I don’t know why this person is expecting some amazing shopping like it’s Buckhead.
She has unrealistic expectations.

What I want to know is, who is the news director that said, “oh, let’s print this story! This is solid news! Everyone is going to love this. This is important news for a major American city to know about. There’s literally nothing else any more important .”
How was this story hatched and who got the ball rolling?

Ann Pope has lived in the upscale neighborhood “The Cascades" for the last 15 years.
She chose to live in Southwest Atlanta because it's 95% black, and she wouldn't have to deal with the crackers. I don't need to hear about retail racism from her.

Duh...she can’t walk there

They never stop their bitching.
Shoppers, that is.

I bet she's not screaming racism when she's shopping for homes and find a comparable 2500 sf home in Buckhead running about $700k and in South Atlanta that home is $350k.

Here are the median incomes of the subdivisions that make up the Cascade area of Southwest Atlanta:
Cascade Heights: $45,687
Beecher Hills: $42,020
Audubon Forest: $55,064
Adams Park: $42,774
Venetian Hills: $41,995

They want upscale shopping so it can get picked clean by their five-finger discount grandchilluns.

I 100% guarantee that retail stores couldn't care 2 shits worth about your race compared to your average household income.
There are dozens of small towns in Alabama that are high majority white, yet there's a big number of kids in the area schools getting free or reduced cost lunches, and Nieman Marcus isn't opening up any stores there either.

wouldnt that be literally how any business would decide on if to open somewhere?

It's racist for business owners to put their businesses where they will have the best chance for success?

To say that looking at a zip code is the sole determining factor for putting a store in a certain area is ridiculous. I believe they look at the revenue numbers for similar businesses in the area.

The reality is that middle and upper middle class black people live in Cascade because it's a "black" part of the city that isn't a shithole.
A lot of black people live down there for political-ish reasons, so they can tell black people "I live in SW Atlanta" rather than "I live in Buckhead or Vinings." Kasim Reed for example.
Businesses don't locate there because there isn't enough volume to sustain them from the better Cascade areas. And the surrounding areas are hood. It's the same reason these people complaining have gated neighborhoods despite being in the city (something not common in most cities, including most of Atlanta).

They look at quite a few things and there are firms out there that are highly specialized in retail real estate, especially for high end retailers.
But yea, pre-ad sales, traffic, potential product mixture, median income, and so on and so on all factor in - I've done some work that touched on this before, and it's pretty cool.

It basically means you can walk to any form of convenience. Be it grocery restaurants bars retail etc. it’s the rage man.

Imagine living in a country so free and wealthy that the lack of a Gucci store within walking distance is seriously considered to be an example of racism.

Restaurants do
And rightfully so, some stereotypes are just true.
"Diet coke, no ice. Oh and is it free refills?" (and then doesn't tip)
