And did you really need to ask how tp handle a stutterer when you have been friends with this guy for 20 years?

The best thing you can do is stutter a little too but not to make fun of them, to make them feel better.

Have you ever considered slapping the frick out of him to set if it works like a Control-Alt-Delete?

My lil cousin used to studder. Probably about from the time he could talk up to about 15. He may still does it occasionally now on a few words, but he's light years better than what he was as a child.
But during his entire childhood, I made constant never ending jokes about it too. I think that's why he doesn't like talking to me now.
I consider this particular cousin one of my favorite cousins. But i dont think the feeling is reciprocated. Now that I think about it I was an a-hole while we were kids. I should really call him to apologize. This might be why he never answers the phone or calls me back ever lol.

You haven't figured this out in 20 years?
Maybe he’s only completed one full sentence in that time.

“How many syllables, Mario?!?!”

I have a pretty bad stutter.
I never was offended by someone finishing my sentences. I thought it was more funny than anything else. Others may feel differently. It’s a self-esteem thing with some people.

I remember Richard Pryor in one of his stand up routines doing a bit about a stuttering Chinese or Japanese. How could you tell they were stuttering. That was pretty funny.

Just slap him in the back when he hangs up on a word. That usually fixes it.

Maybe ask him if he finds it helpful or not?

I’ve stuttered my whole life.
Sit there and let him say what he wants to say on his own time. He does the same for you, I’m sure.
Don’t EVER talk over him unless it’s a life or death situation.
Finishing sentences is incredibly rude. He already knows what he wants to say.
And I second everyone else saying that if you’ve been friends with homie for 20 years just...ask him. With all the speech therapy work he does, I can’t imagine he’s sensitive about his speech. I know I’m not.

Maybe I should have clarified. We have been friends/business associates for twenty years with about a ten year gap with no contact. We aren’t hang out and bbq together type friends though we have become closer friends the last few years which is why I wonder about this.
