This time of the year, fresh bass. From cold water. About a two pound bass is my favorite. Then of course the bag of milk!

Of those I've personally had, it's walleye then crappie. They served walleye in most of the restaurants in Ohio. It was excellent.
I've heard that sauger are better than those, but I've never had it before.

These are all the same thing.
Crappie is the genus. Sac au lait and white perch are the same fish with different names, and a speckled perch is a crappie, but a different type of crappie than white perch.

Just going by what I was told at the time. This was like 15 years ago. I believe the slats on this particular trap were too narrow, so it only let in small fish. I don’t know what the laws were or are, just what I was told at the time.

I figured you did, so I'd not made a comment.
But, one can never overestimate the degree of stupid that will appear on TD.

Gawd, I love some fried white perch.

Smelt. We used to sit on the pier drinking beer all night while hauling up net after net full of smelt. It was a team effort. One would lower and hoist the net, another would scoop the bounty from the net with a long pole that had a can on the end of it, and another would take a scissors, snip off the head and gut them. Battered, then you had deep fried goodness. I miss smelt.
Great call. I haven't had any in years but, man, that's some damn good eats. They're tough to find in stores down here but growing up in Chicago many restaurants would have smelt fry nights and people would often cook them at home, too.

Probably have to go with coho salmon with where I live. Then king salmon. Then red salmon. Then chum salmon.
When OP said freshwater I wasn't thinking salmon since they only live in fresh a very short time.
Anyway, I don't like salmon that much although I'm addicted to fishing for them.

Well shite man... again, I’m just restating what was told to me. End of the day, little catfish are delicious.
