re: Roomba vs traditional vacuum

I'd be worried about it going over dog poop too. The dog is trained but dogs can get upset stomachs too and accidents happen. Mine might have an accident in the house twice a year, but that's enough to make me nervous about running a roomba while im away.

What kind of dog? My in laws have two French bulldogs and they seem to get by with just the 980, but they have mostly hardwood. I think either way, like another poster said, if you have carpet, you will still need to use a regular vacuum fairly often.

Ok? Then don’t run it when you’re away. Run it at night when everyone is sleeping and the dog is put up

Roomba runs once a day, I mop once a week. I vacuum corners and a few hard to reach areas every other week or so. House is clean enough.

In fairness, dogs and cats get sick sometimes. The poop roomba horror story only takes one bad day.

I run mine 2-3x week. My dog doesn't mind it. It works well for lighter duty stuff like the dust and hair but you will still need a good dyson for thoroughness.

Hire someone to clean your house. Unless you are poor.

And if you can't do that, crate them. My dogs love their crate and are usually already in it when I go to leave for work.

Yeah but he mentioned it as if it were a common enough occurrence to render the Roomba pointless.
There's an easy work around like running it at night when your dogs are up.

Roombas are louder than you may expect them to be, but outside of that I’ve been very happy with ours. We don’t run ours when not home because it tends to get stuck under things. Change the filters regularly and you’ll be very happy. Ours works well on carpet, tile, and hardwood.

Which actually helps in the house training in the first place.

Mine only go in at night when we're sleeping, but they love it as well. They'll lay in there with the door open all the time.

Finding someone good and reliable to clean your house is one of those adult things you think sounds easy until you're actually doing it. Like hiring good help in other contexts. Every person we've used becomes a pain in the arse in one way or another.

Love ours with two dogs. Run it every day and the wife vacuums once a week. You do need to clean out the waste basket every day due to dog hair.

You really need both because a Roomba will still miss spots behind doors and along baseboards. Still works great though.

We just hired a new girl to clean our house twice a month.
We've never actually met her face to face and she has a key to our house.
Two different friends have used her for years though and she had a rare opening so we had to jump on it. She is awesome at cleaning and even takes the dogs out while she's there.

Ive had a Roomba for a year with two Aussies in an apartment. In the time ive spent cleaning hair off the damn roller i couldve vacuumed the whole place.
