re: 'Birds of Prey' bombs at the box office — and feminists are blaming sexism

Luke is as much a Mary Sue as Rey. He's immediately good, trains for half an hour in the second movie, and is then suddenly the best. I'd say he's written as pretty "ideal", but he's a man and people liked him when they were kids, so who cares.
Has anyone mentioned he got his arse kicked by a winter Sasquatch?

This is what set the hero off...

Well now you are just lying.
My first SW response was to:
quote:
Luke is as much a Mary Sue as Rey.
quote:
You proved that Rey is a bigger Mary Sue than Luke, by a large margin.
You once again have proven my point by trying your best to argue against it.
quote:
I never once argued against that point. Not once.
Wait. . .what does "spot on" mean then, because:
quote:I am old enough to remember you posted thatquote:
Since only females are Mary Sues, and because the term has been widely adopted by the group that complains about most females in movies, I'm gonna say that the detractors have an issue with her gender.

This post is spot on.

I didn't post that to you, either.

I didn't post that to you, either.
So it means you think:

Luke is as much a Mary Sue as Rey.
No?

But you did post it. . .
Not to you, which means that isn't the discussion we were having.
This is what I posted to you:

Should we change the title of this thread to
Birds of Rey
:rimshot:

Yea about 4 people saw that quote. That was not a reason at all.
Of course it was.
LINK
quote:
"That’s what happens when you have a female producer, director, writer." Robbie chimed in to say, "Yeah, it’s definitely less male gaze-y."
quote:
The male gaze, for those unfamiliar with the term, refers to the practice of depicting women in media and literature from a specifically straight, male perspective, typically as sexual objects for the pleasure of straight male viewers.
Also, has nothing to do with her quote. Had she said that and they not gone through with it, no one would have cared. They clearly made an effort to make Harley less sexy. That was dumb, as she was one of the only good things to come out of the Suicide Squad movie.

Not to you,
. . .and here we are.
So you are lying again. Seems to be a pattern with you. You get handily trounced in a debate/discussion, so you lie and deflect.
No worries. I immortalized your position in my sig quote. That is your position, own it.

Saw Birds of Prey last Saturday. Couple thoughts.
I was suckered in by the high scores of both critics and audiences.
I did not feel like I was being preached at during the movie. Harley basically says she don’t need no man and McGregor’s character is an over the top douche.
The first half of the movie is a complete mess.
Harley is way over done by Robie and I like the character.
Needed more Huntress. Only interesting part of the movie was a glimpse at her backstory.
Rosie Perez is still annoying as frick. I actually didn’t know she was in it till she appeared on screen and I thought frick me.
Black Canary’s character was paper thin.
My 16 year old daughter thought it was boring as hell and she’s a Harley fan girl.
The kid can’t act for shite.
It just wasn’t good. I was very disappointed

Jim Carrey was right. Nobody wants to watch Margot Robbie on screen when she isn’t dolled up and sexy.
