Yeah, they don't know much about Barkley to not see how nasty he was. Pure brute Force and athleticism from Charles Barkley.

Watching Barkley grab a rebound and go coast to coast was one of the most amazing sights the league has ever seen. Zion can grab it and go, but even he can’t do it the way Barkley did.

So just watched Barkley highlights and that comparison is spot on on where his game is now. Even similar body types. And I think once fully healthy we will see some Zion coast to coast highlights.

I do'nt think that is the case at all.

I think some of y'all are selling Zion short on his athleticism.

If you think Barkley and Zion compare athletically, you need to go watch some more Barkley. yeah he was athletic, but not like this. Just b/c you say someone is more athletic than someone else doesn't mean the lesser guy isn't athletic.

His 2nd jump is unlike anyone else in the league, especially at his size. We are going to continue to see him power to the rim and if he misses he's going to get his own rebound and put it back up more often than not. Jokic does this very well, but for a much different reason, he simply bully's his way under the goal to where the defender can't really get the rebound b/c Jokic is so big and so tall.

I think we still haven't seen anywhere near prime Zion from an athletic and even skill standpoint.
The thing that impressed me the most in the preseason was Zion's dribbling. He's been terrible thus far at that.
And i think if zion was 100%, he would have posterized Giannis twice the other night, instead of getting blocked.

Jrue’s best season in steals per game is this season. He’s averaging 1.7 this season

Alvin Robertson holds the record for career steals per game - at 2.7 per game. His best season was 3.7 steals per game

Robertson was a monster at disrupting. Jrue is a great defender but Alvin was next level impact. DPOY, 4x on All Defense teams, 4 time all star. Over only 12 seasons. One of only 4 players to have a quadruple double

Let’s not compare Jrue to him, that’s egregious

Grandmama could shoot from out, stepping into it on the run.
Zion cant.
He developed that later on in his career when injuries diminished his athleticism. But coming into the league he really wasn’t a shooting threat.

You are so wrong You don’t know what a burst is bubba

Dude won a rebounding title as a young buck 6’5” PF in a league at the time that was filled with Charles oakleys, lambeers, buck williams, Michael cage, dream, parish, Kevin Willis, Moses, Karl etc

If Zion is bigger faster stronger more athletic I would expect him to dominate the boards

Barkley was longer which helps with the boards. As rookies, their rebounding numbers aren’t that much different and this is with Williamson coming off of injury. So there’s that.

It’s safe to say we haven’t come anywhere near close to seeing what Zion will do in the league and he’s already averaging big numbers. His athleticism is definitely on display since he’s getting buckets at such an efficient rate.

I wasn’t slighting Zion. But he is 6’6” without shoes. Barkley himself said he is 6’ 4.75”. Not only did Barkley using his quickness and bounce, he was a master at playing the angles of a shot. There is no reason Zion shouldn’t be a double digit rebounder in the future. But Zion’s current 12.9 reb per 100 possessions would’ve been Barkley’s worst rate of his 16 year career. Barkley topped out at 18.7 rebound per 100 and that was in to his 30s with houston. Dude was a freak

Dude said Barkley was no where near as athletic as Zion

One post that dumps on Barkley's athleticism and calls out LeBron for misusing his gifts on the basketball court.

What’s amazing about Zion is that he kind of loafs around, then hits a gear and looks like he’s faster than Westbrook.

The Round Mound of Rebound was athletic. Zion is more so.
Rebounding is a lot about effort, not just athleticism.
With differences in time periods, I posit these ideas/questions: did they have more rebounds in the 89s/90s per 100? Are missed 3s more likely to be rebounded by 1-3 vs shots from the inside? Are we seeing lower rebounding numbers from 4s and 5s in todays NBA?

Per 100 possessions nullifies the distorting effects of pace and allows one to more aptly compare players across different eras

Zion is more athletic
Charles better athlete

I think playing in different eras also clouds things. Zion will be the most physically imposing player on the court in what, 75% of the games? Barkley played in an era where 7 foot, 300 pound players were sought after, not thrown away.

I’m hoping Zion’s rebounding takes a linear path similar to Giannis. Freak has improved year over year and now has one of the best rebounding rates in the league

Most of Zion’s rebounds right now are coming off of offensive rebounds which is crazy. I think his rebounding potential will depend on he develops into a perimeter orient player or stay the course and continue to develop primarily from the post.

I see the comparison, but Chuck didn’t have quite the same athleticism, although better than most people expected

U missed my point. Perhaps it was presented poorly.

IF in one era, only 20% of shots were made while in a later era, 60% was made, the first era would have more rebounds.

IF in one era, shots were from near the goal, more big guys would get rebounds. If in a later era, more shots were from outside, perhaps the ball bounces further out and Gs get more rebounds.

I dunno if either case is true but it is plausible
