How long will it take for the stink to wear off of Game of Thrones

I have never seen a show that was so popular just disappear from the face of the earth. No reruns on HBO. No discussion. Nothing.
It feels like it never existed. I can’t imagine going back and re-watching any of the episodes, knowing how poorly it ends.

To be fair, HBO doesn't really do reruns of shows once they are done airing. They want you to watch their new stuff b/c they they only make a small amount of content per year and don't want viewers to be distracted from it.
That may change now that they are under different leadership though as they seem to be shifting away from producing a low amount of high quality shows they fully believe in to hitting viewers with a blitzkrieg of content and hoping something sticks.

I had been looking forward to re-watching the whole series, like Breaking Bad. But after the last season my interest in re-watching GoT completely evaporated.

It’s quite amazing how unpopular it became . . . almost instantly.

It truly is amazing that the show went from one of, if not the most popular show of all time to nothing in just a few weeks. The final season was an absolute shite show. They really should have added two extra full seasons instead of that joke they called season 8

Yeah, but we've watched Sopranos from start to finish three times and we're in talks for a fourth.
I've watched Six Feet Under twice, a few other series as well.
No way I'm investing in a month of watching GoT knowing what's waiting for me at the end.

It's all about content, and this very major piece of content is ruined for HBO. The effect that this had on you and me and others is the one that was intended.

Yeah, it's kind of incredible. Like how do you re-watch it knowing how terrible some of the payoffs were?
The worst thing is without context a lot of it might sound great.
What if in season 3 I could tell you that Dany actually goes mad and burn's King's Landing down with a combined force of Unsullied, Dothraki, and Northmen behind her facing off against the Lannisters and the Golden Company?
The excitement would be through the roof. Seeing the North invade King's Landing is what we all were dying for after what happened to Rob and Ned.
But they just completely botched the path there and a re-watch just isn't worth it.

Well, let me see...
Jon ended up being a little b*tch. Jamie same thing. Fraud Cersei same(I’m ok with this). Arya and Sansa in god mode. Tyrion gets rewarded for being shite at his job(so brave dropping hand of king pin). Night King willing to face Theon but not Jon...wtf? Did Mel die....ah, who cares. Hound Ok ending. Brienne honors the guy that betrayed her? Talk about low self esteem. Beta Sam doesn’t even speak up for Jon. Were they ever friends? Why couldn’t Bran die in the 1st episode. That tower that he fell out of should’ve been taller. Clown committee meeting, clown small council meeting.
Yeah, it’s going to stink for a while.

and the ironic part is Star Wars fired D&D

Never. The show has been forever tainted by having not just a ho-hum finale, or a plain bad ending, but the most heartbreaking, gut wrenchingly awful last season that it's worse than if it had not had a last season at all.

I’ll rewatch the first 6 seasons one day. It ends with Cercei destroying her rivals and winning. I can live with that.

So much better in retrospect

Not even that. Just make the last 2 seasons full length, 10 episodes each.
The short seasons really mucked it all up

How long you got?
Member when LSU rolled through everyone and then lost the Bamulligan on 1/9/2012? I member.
So, 8 years for sure isn't long enough.

Is this sort of the M/TV board version of "Trust Martin"?
