No reruns on HBO

Well, it's not really a show that most people want to watch a random episode. They'd have to dedicate time to show every episode sequentially, which I'm sure they will do.

I mean how can you even re-watch the show and even care about Jaime.

His whole redemption arch was just tossed aside in the last couple of episodes. Years of building that slow but excellent turn into a good guy only for him to say "You know what? I actually don't care about anyone. Just want to go bang my sister again.

Does anyone remember the simpsons episode, "New Kid on the Block?" where Bart has that crush on Laura Powers only to get devastated by him finding out she's hooking up with Jimbo?

Jimbo: Man, my shirts chaffing me I need to take it off. Wow, now my pants are chaffing me. better take those off too!

I was thinking of this as I was watching the scene where Jaime and Brienne are hooking up. Because its exactly what Jaime does when he's complaining about his garments.

That's how fricking bad the writing was in the last season; that during what should have been a powerful scene all I could think about was Jimbo from the simpsons.

I had bought season 1 in 4k shortly before Season 8 aired. I had recently gotten a new 4k TV, surround sound set-up and the wife and I were already talking about spending a weekend binging the whole series from start to finish. I was even looking forward to one day showing my son the series when he's old enough (although I wasn't sure how to be in the same room with him for the gratuitous penis scenes).

But then just like that ::Snap:: it all faded away. I haven't even taken the cellophane off the Season 1 disc, and I honestly never want to watch it again. It would feel like re-watching home movies of an old girlfriend that ended in a bad break-up... it's jsut going to lead you to a dark place.

Problem is, so much of the appeal of the show was all the complex side-plots and foreshadowing that all ultimately went nowhere. Re-watching it would just remind me at every turn "Oh there's Sam finding the horn of Joramun...which I now know means absolutely nothing." "There's the prophecy of Cersei being killed by her valonquar. Is it Tyrion or Jaime!? Oh. It's neither. It's death by crumbling building." I could go on and on

Like you I was the battered wife all through the last season “but they were really setting up Arya!!1!1!”
And then bran happens.

Friggin bran. Weirdo bran.
Not of that world bran.

That entire last meeting was so out of character for so many major and minor characters from all the 7 kingdoms it completely ruined everything. It’s not even the last season. The last 15 minutes of an 8 season long show completely ruined absolutely everything

Exactly. It was bad, but then the last 20 minutes/counsel meeting was all-time bad.

Just to name a few...
1. One second Tyrion isnt allowed to speak and then the next meeting he goes on a 3 minute spill of what everyone should do.
2. Jon has to go to satisfy GREY WORM. Really? Grey Worm. Who the hell cares what him and the unsullied and the 8 dothraki left think.
3. Sansa has an army outside and she is just fine with what happens to Jon because of Grey Worm. Freaking kill them and shut them up.
4. Even easier than that, is when Bran gets elected, he is just fine with Jon be sent off? He could have been like, ok, my first order is that MY BROTHER CAN BE RELEASED AND DO WHATEVER THE HELL HE WANTS TO. Why would he be ok with that? Sansa and Bran are completely ok with the decision even though they their brother is getting screwed.
5. Bran. The dude was like "why do you think i've come all this way?" Well I dont know dumbass, BECAUSE SOMEONE PUSHED YOU.
6. Jon's story and 8 seasons of prophecy = useless

There were about a million other things wrong with that but thats just I wanted to rant about.

I could tell GoT wasn’t gonna be worth it after season 3 and quit watching. It was too bad, because seasons 1 and 2 were absolutely phenomenal

Im never watching it again.

Yup.

I wasn't nearly as invested in Dexter as I was in GOT, and I've still not bothered rewatching Dexter after that shitshow of an ending. I still actively tell people that say they are going to binge GOT to not bother with it.

Albeit a very small camp, put me in the camp that still likes GoT. Yes, the last season (and really couple of seasons) had a lot of stupid shite. But they also had some redeeming qualities as well, and some really excellent scenes in them. Yes, some of the plot points and execution of said points were EXTREMELY stupid and made very little sense. But those didn't ruin 8 years of awesome show for me. Will I watch the show every year forever? Nah. But I still catch reruns sometimes (HBO does show reruns here and there...not sure why people are saying/acting like they don't do that ).

A good comparison for me is The Departed. I thought that movie was incredible right up until the last ten minutes. Then I felt like it went off the rails a bit and sucked; almost felt like they didn't know how to end it. Some people like the ending, some hate it. I hated it. And it made an otherwise excellent movie just "very good" for me. That's how I feel about GoT. It's a very good show...even great. But the ending tarnished it a bit from what it could have been.

And that's okay IMO.

It's not going to.

The rest means nothing when you know where it ends up.

I’ll let you know in a few years.

It is not rational how pissed off I am at how it ended.

The worst thing is without context a lot of it might sound great. What if in season 3 I could tell you that Dany actually goes mad and burn's King's Landing down with a combined force of Unsullied, Dothraki, and Northmen behind her facing off against the Lannisters and the Golden Company? The excitement would be through the roof. Seeing the North invade King's Landing is what we all were dying for after what happened to Rob and Ned. But they just completely botched the path there and a re-watch just isn't worth it.

That’s a really interesting point.

Season 7 & 8 was so shitty it gave me a more appreciation for season 1-6 and motivates me for a rewatch. I’m just letting enough time go by I’ll forget details

This is the biggest problem for me

Jon’s reveal at the end of season 6 was one of my favorite moments in movie/TV history. Damn near two decades of storytelling and build-up, and what did it lead to?

I can watch a couple big battle episodes, such as Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards, for a movie-like experience.

I have recently watched Season 8 ep 1-2-3 (I think that's the group, it ends with the defeat of the Night King). Did a quick binge of that, and it was pretty fun as a standalone experience.

I absolutely can't stomach the thought of a full rewatch.

I just can't....that show was so damn fantastic and boom season 7 was bad and season 8 was flat out an insult to everyone that watched that show for years. For years we're lead to believe Jon's heritage is vital to the story...it ended up meaning absolutely fricking nothing. They didn't even give a shite enough to let us see the reaction of Sansa and Arya to the information. That's just one thing that showed they didn't care about the story I'd go on but I'm getting angry.

Correct answer is never. I rewatch lots and lots of tv every year. I doubt I will ever watch GOT again. Knowing how it ends does actually ruin rewatching some of the early seasons for me. Early seasons seem pointless now.

I was one of the show's biggest defenders after season seven lost a lot of people. I loved the first two episodes of season eight and was defending the show pretty vehemently up until the third episode with the Battle of Winterfell. That is where the show finally jumped the shark for me. And then Dany's Mad Queen plot just coming out of the blue starting with episode four.

I'll never watch another episode of Game of Thrones again.
