Strangest movie I've ever seen. The people aren't even actors, just strange kids and adults in Nashville, making a movie based in a depressing town in Ohio after a bad tornado.

know David Lynch and Tarkovsky. Watched The Lighthouse the other night. I’d put Mandy in the category as well.

like the other guy said, def give Holy Mountain a chance.

The Element of Crime, or lars von trier in general, sounds right up your alley.

might like new german cinema stuff, Wings of Desire, Aguirre: Wrath of God. its pretty broad.

Gus Van Sant has a weird little period of Elephant, Gerry, and Last Days.

Velvet Goldmine is one of my favorite movies, if you like glam rock and dont mind some man arse.

Jigoku is a very weird movie.

City of Lost Children and Begotten are good choices.

Come and See is also excellent - a war movie, but a war movie set in a fever dream. It conveys the horrors of the Eastern Front far more starkly than any Western war movie ever could.

Also check out Un Chien Andalou and Meshes of the Afternoon. Both are short in running time, but will take several watches to really digest.

Throw on Antichrist if you really want to get freaky.

I had to read various takes on this movie. There didn't seem to be a universal consensus on what was truly happening. As you said, very interesting. I enjoyed it.

Doubt this is what you are talking about, but The Salton Sea is maybe up that alley. Though I may be thinking that because it is not very mainstream.

I know David Lynch

If any of yall haven't seen it yet, make sure to watch "What Did Jack Do?" on Netflix. Absolutely great for anyone who also enjoys old noir/crime movies. It's like David Lynch meets Kafka (the poster).
