ABSOLUTELY. Possession (1981) is an art house horror MASTERPIECE. By all means check it out, just make sure you watch the original version and not the American cut.

That's pretty mainstream. It's a Danny Boyle flick (best Director for Slumdog.)

The British Film Institute named Trainspotting the 10th greatest British film of all-time.

Kontroll

Fun Hungarian flick from 2003 taking place almost entirely underground. Awesome soundtrack, gritty grimey cinematography, some cool uses of colors and shadows. Lots of symbolism if that's your thing, but plenty digestible taken literally too. Wonderful film all around.

Found Tideland on Amazon Prime and that....went completely over my head. Junkies and retards, and probably something else I'm missing.

I do agree, but I did show two people who had never seen it yesterday so thought maybe it wasn't as known as I thought.

I don't want to say watch weird stuff just to watch it, but here's some indie-ish films I really like

Upstream Color
Smithereens
Kes
Female Trouble
Slacker

Trust (Early 90s good not great dark room com. Think they missed the mark casting the two mains)
The Addiction (Mid 90s, strange philosophical B&w vampire movie)

Strangest movie I've ever seen. The people aren't even actors, just strange kids and adults in Nashville, making a movie based in a depressing town in Ohio after a bad tornado.

I watched Gummo once, like 18 years ago, and I continue to be horrified by the bathtub scene.

One of my absolute favorite movies of the decade. Id be lying if I told you I fully understood it, but its gorgeous, fun, and completely absurd. Lavant is extraordinary in the lead.

I absolutely hated this movie the first time I saw it. I thought it was art house dribble. As I got older, my tastes change and mature, and I came back to this after really finding Arnfosky and becoming a huge fan. Its probably my favorite Arnofsky film, and much like mother!, you either love the film and the allegory, or you absolutely think its trash. Its definitely top 10 for me this century.

The Addiction

Interesting movie.

I forget alot of the finer points but one scene sorta stayed with me.

When Christopher Walken is talking about trying to become human again and how he's getting closer to that. He mentions that he can now defecate. That was an important milestone for his character.
