For years now, there has been a narrative that Marvel has been dominating DC in terms of producing consistent, quality content with its grand, over-arching Marvel Cinematic Universe which spans both movies and TV. DC, meanwhile, has been struggling with disjointed stories and a sub-par attempt at the same thing with the DCEU

But I think it’s time to stop and take stock of where we actually are in this new era. And I have to believe that with Infinity War ending the “main” MCU saga and Disney shifting over to D+ content, that DC is in the strongest content creation place it’s ever been, and is now the one starting to dominate Marvel instead. And a key component of that is that it is not employing a grand, MCU-like strategy, allowing for much more flexibility in how, where and what kind of content they produce.

Its obviously a DC shill. Let's see how well Birds of Prey does compared to Black Widow at the box office. My money is on Black Widow and it won't be close.

I've watched the DC universe films about once per movie. Maybe twice. I can barely remember the plot to any of them because they just didn't stick with me. I've rewatched each of the MCU movies at least 5 times for even the worst ones such as Thor 2 or Iron Man 3 and the rest probably a dozen or so times or more depending on how long they've been out.

DC in no way has the upper hand on Marvel.

Marvel has an eye towards 2028 in regards to content

The best thing DC has done lately was allow Ezra Miller to portray the film version of Flash on the Crisis crossover for like 8 seconds. Plus, they are billing Black Adam as a hero type, when he is one of the worst villains in DC publication history

DC has had 2 movies that topped a billion world wide.

The MCU has 8 movies that grossed over a billion and a total gross of over 22 billion for an average of over a billion per film.

Well yeah one is in February with a C list character with a sub $100 million budget and the other is in May with arguably an A list with a $200 million budget and Disney’s distribution.

There is no reason why Black Widow wouldn’t outgross Harley Quinn.

Warner Brothers will always lag behind Disney for 3 reasons - Distribution power, China, and playing the reviews system.

I'd love to agree with him, but his argument sounds a lot like Clemson and Alabama talking about LSU.

The Upper Hand

What does this mean?

DC has always had the "upper hand" (I guess ) in TV with the Arrowverse and the Animated stuff.

But nothing he says points to some "shift" in dominance from Marvel right now. We certainly WILL see better stuff from DCEU (Birds of Prey notwithstanding. That looks like garbage. 1984 looks pretty ho hum), but Joker was alright, Shazam! was the best thing they put out, and Dick Grayson can still make a difference if they let him (But they never will).

Book it now: Eternals globally, will match WW/Joker. And this article can be put to rest. Marvel will take another D level property and make it successful.

And this assumption is rally dumb. There's no turn towards D+, there's a momentary pause in movies as they ramp up the next big storyline and give people a break - as the public sort of asked for.

There might be some truth to this. I don't know though because that article doesn't provide any evidence to support such a conclusion.

TLDR:

Marvel has to replace big stars in the MCU, just lost a bunch of TV shows, and hasn't even done anything with X-Men yet.

Meanwhile, DC is strategically choosing not to leverage their success with Joker, Birds of Prey is rated R thus profit, the last Wonder Woman was great, and the rest of their content is admittedly hit or miss but hey there's a shitload of it.

Isn't Watchmen DC? I thought that series was excellent and they didn't even mention it.

- Despite a lot of critical acclaim and some truly stellar seasons among them, Marvel killed all five of its Netflix series, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and The Punisher in order to extract itself from a streaming rival. It seems likely these characters will remain dead indefinitely.

Netflix pulled the plug on those shows b/c they don't want to help advertise for a competing streaming service and are focusing on putting out IP they own the rights to over IP they can't control. This dude isn't even able to get basic facts right.

Marvel still has X-Men and Fantastic Four in their back pocket. DC is relying on yet another Batman reboot starring the guy from Twilight. We don't even know what's going on with Superman.

Exactly what I heard too.

I'd barely call that article an argument.

Both movies are tracking far below initial expectations. Interest isn't high for either of them.
