Wouldn’t the relevance be that the Biden’s were suspected of corruption and the aid had a condition of requiring corruption to be rooted out before it could be given?

Nope.

The DOD had already approved the release of those funds.

In it's approval statement, the DOD addressed the fact that Ukraine had taken measures to combat corruption.

The corruption crap is just an excuse made up after the fact.

Schiff and his dem-witted colleagues don't know how it works. Roberts is not there to rule on anything. This is not a criminal trial and the Chief Justice is there only as a dignified figure head. The Senate President controls any impeachment trial.

For once I agree with texridder. Joe Biden is key to all of this because Papa Joe is dirtier than Mississippi mud.

Tex, do you believe for a moment that pops was not covering junior's rear? I mean if your kid was getting money for nothing and you stood to gain from it, would you not seek to protect the honey hole if you could? Hunter is worthless.

Tex the last thing anyone in the Senate or the House on either side wants is questions about the "consultants" the US sends over with foreign aid and their fee structures. Biden isjust one of many on the list right now. Kerry's stepson is at risk of exposure.....Also there may be some question regarding the activities and interest of Bob Menendez, Pat Leahy and Dick Durbin in all of this.....this door opens and lots of people go down, right now, mostly Democrats.

Beware of what your side asks for...you just might get it.

Right

I am sure that is it

You are the gutless coward, you only crawl back here because you think Bolton is some bombshell. You have been invisible as the Dems have been embarrassed daily

I ridicule the notion that Biden was pressuring Ukraine to do anything on his own.

Biden was asking for Shokin to be removed on behalf of the Obama administration. Just like the EU and the IMF had asked for Shokin to be removed.

Hell, when Biden told them they weren't going to get the loan, they said "you can't do that" and Biden told them to call Obama if they didn't believe him.
Just so I understand your contention:

You are claiming that Biden was just carrying out Obama's (and the EU and IMF) wishes by pressuring Ukraine to fire the man who was investigating corruption tied to his immediate family, and that any benefits to Biden's family by avoiding this kind of scrutiny were merely unintentional coincidences, and not a quid pro quo of any kind.

Is that what you are asserting here? I certainly don't want to be accused of "mischaracterization".

In this capacity Roberts is as useful as the Speaker in the House of Commons.......which is to say minimally useful

What makes you think Bolton will ever testify?

I haven't been invisible. I don't post on here everyday -- regardless of if it's raining or shining.

TEXRIDDER has a conservative alter on this board too --- dude is just practicing.

Have you come up with anything close to a rational reason why someone would have a conservative and a non-conservative persona on the same political board.

Let me know when you come up with that one.

You are one stupid MF.

Not quite true. Justice Roberts actually has the power to call witnesses during an impeachment under current senate rules. Would take 2/3 to change that rule.

The rules further empower the chief justice to enforce the subpoena rule. Rule V says: “The presiding officer shall have power to make and issue, by himself or by the Secretary of the Senate, all orders, mandates, writs, and precepts authorized by these rules, or by the Senate, and to make and enforce such other regulations and orders in the premises as the Senate may authorize or provide.” The presiding officer, under our Constitution, is the chief justice. As such, the chief justice, as presiding officer, has the “power to make and issue, by himself,” subpoenas.
