There were a few games where the playcalling was terrible, and this was one of them. The coaches let Texas off the hook with a bad game plan, and the LSU players let their coaches off the hook with great plays like this one.

Hard to overstate how important that play and game was to LSU season

Not the type of play our prior coaching staff would have called.

I love that during the play ESPN flashes a graphic across their bottom line that says LSU is 1-7-1 all-time at Texas. That play proved to be the winner.

Have to say, I knew this team was different after that play.

And, to make it even sweeter, the stiff arm was against Caden Sterns, former long time LSU commit.

You don’t think Les would have called a pass play on 3rd and 17?
No.
I am thoroughly, and completely confident he would have ran the ball to kill clock, then punted to leave the game in the defenses hands.
If you disagree, you don't know Les Miles.

No. He would’ve punted and played defense.

Yes, but not about this. I watched it time and time again.

That pass play broke my spirit. Man, if the defensive lineman jumps a split second earlier, the pass is knocked down and we have a very different game.
What about the keontay Ingram pass wide open in the end zone?
What if Herman doesn't go stupid and kick the field goals instead of going for it. Man just bone headed calls. Always take the points early. Always.
This is where my opinion of Joe Burrow changed. I knew he was the real deal that game.

Disappointed in this thread. Missing the best two reaction gifs of the whole season.

Miles opens up the second half pounding the ball since its 100F outside, you’re up 13, and LSU RB’s are averaging >5yards per carry in the first half.
Whereas this team aired it out, went 3-and-out to begin the 3rd, followed by a long UT TD drive to make it a one-score game that would later include an on-side kick that mattered, Les’ standard game plan would have buried UT after the first drive of the second half, which would have featured at least six carries by Clyde and lasted at least six minutes.
So maybe you’re right. Les calls a running play up three scores on 3rd & 17.
I’m gonna tell you people a secret. This team would have been even more dominant with Les as coach.

A Les Miles team loses 3 games this year, with every team stacking the run.
Joe Burrow would not have been a Heisman contender, throwing 15 flat passes a game.
Defense would have been better, statistically. That is the benefit of the ball control offense Miles ran.
I think LAST YEAR's team would have performed better under Miles, but Miles would have squandered this year's team.

quote:Correct. Clyde wins the Heisman.

quote:Such a stupid thing to say. Literally the only missing piece in Les’ puzzle was a qb, so you think he fails to win when he’s given a heisman-caliber qb? His run at LSU is hall-of-fame worthy, and you think that if you give him a standard Les roster PLUS the best qb he’s ever seen, he would fail?
Miles would have squandered this year's team.
LSU fans are idiots.

More accurate to describe me as an LSU alumnus.
