Funny thing about the Spanish Flu...
quote:
To maintain morale, wartime censors minimized early reports of illness and mortality in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States. Papers were free to report the epidemic's effects in neutral Spain (such as the grave illness of King Alfonso XIII). These stories created a false impression of Spain as especially hard hit, thereby giving rise to the pandemic's nickname, "Spanish flu".

I'm sure China would be happy if this thing killed off a large percentage of the elderly. So sure they would fudge the numbers on it.

I think the Chinese, eat this stuff on the regular anyway. Always have. They think meat from certain animals have medicinal properties.
I know they have a pork shortage, but would this cause them to increase their consumption of exotic meat? That kind of thing is usually very expensive.

It’s entirely possible people from the originating region may have some immunity from this strain. In other words, mortality could rise the further you get from the virus’ place of origin. Of course, it’s not time to panic or really worry too much. In the West, we generally have superior sanitation and better air quality- both advantages.
If the illness made it over here, life would go on. Politicians care about keeping revenue going, not saving lives. The key would be minimizing exposure. Maybe stay home and homeschool the kids for a bit, stock up on delivered groceries and Lysol, tell your doctor you’re taking an exotic vacation and get a Z pack, Cipro, inhalers, etc. for your entire family. None of this will probably be necessary.

There's already a vaccine that the Gates foundation will "spearhead" into research and then make millions on.

Might have something to do with a swine flu harming a large % of pig farms in Asia the last year or two.

plain jane flu kills HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people in the US every year. Throw in a virus that is similarly communicable, slightly more contagious, and with a little bit higher mortality rate and you could STILL have a million dead in the US over one bad flu season.

quote:So basically this whole thing is Trump's fault
The government is broke because China is out of pork. Pork is the staple source of protein in most of China. They produce a lot of it, but also rely some on imports, especially for soybeans. A massive disease outbreak killed off half their hogs and the trade war with the U.S. cut them off from imports. The price of food more than doubled in the cities. What forced China to the negotiating table is that people in the provinces are starving because the country is running out of meat.
If I had to guess, what is happening in Wuhan is due to eating infected animals or resorting to unclean animals due to the shortages. The bad meat is making people very sick.

So the Zombie Apocalypse now begins. Remember folks get your guns and ammo from the "boat wreck", stock up on gas, pull your MRE's out of storage, dig up those silver coins and get to high ground. Remember yo stay away from large crowds and out of those shite infested large cities.

You're right, I was thinking about hospitalization numbers... but it does kill 20-50k most years.
80,000 died of flu in winter of 2017
