I wouldn't be surprised.
It looks like it because you can't be that bad at grounds keeping and keeping up the habitats

You're probably safer in the cage with the gorillas than outside of it.

You will be fine but probably disappointed. As others have said the zoo is in not great shape. If you can go to Audubon its well worth it.

Should have specified this, We live in NOLA so we have been to the AZ but I am from DC. While I'm sure the Audubon Zoo is better than the BREC zoo, both of them leave me disappointed compared to the Smithsonian zoo I grew up going to. We're going basically just to see the baby giraffe because my girlfriend loves giraffes. So outside of that, I'm not expecting too much.

It's gonna be alright.
It's not a horrible zoo. I mean is it an all day outing?
No. It's not a national caliber zoo by any means!
But, people exaggerate it's shiftiness.
Neighborhood is bad but as long as don't stop nearby for lunch or gas no worries.

Zoos are really outdated and (except for the very finest ones in the world) kind of barbaric IMO.

I haven't been there since I was in college. I was taking anthropology and got extra credit if I went. If I recall, one day it was nice outside and I didn't feel like going to a class so I skipped it and me and someone went to the zoo.

For the 15-20 mins we were there, I don't recall it being anything special. Unless that completely changed it up, don't expect too much.

If you really want to see how terrible the BR zoo is, take the train ride.
It's a small kids train that takes you around the perimeter of the zoo
The only animals you will see are geese and ducks
It's a 15-20 minute ride of nothing but trees

You can openly smoke weed pretty much anywhere in the Zoo without anyone working their knowing or at least pretending to care. It's a ghost town

Waste of time to drive from NOLA to the crappy BR zoo to look at a baby giraffe for 5 minutes. She owes you road head on the way back and pussy at home after this trip.

BR Zoo has been shitty for a long time now. It’s sad because it was a pretty decent zoo in its day.
