Technology in new cars

Is the main center infotainment screen a big deal to you when shopping for a car/truck/suv?
I feel like brands like Audi/Tesla/BMW among others have upped the game with huge flat screen infotainment screens and I hope more follow suit
I’ve been very underwhelmed when looking how brands like Infinity and Toyota seem so far behind as are some trucks.
I feel like my next car needs at least a 9/10 inch screen to future proof itself.
Any other recommendations on newer cars/SUVs that have above average infotainment screens? TIA

Not a big deal to me. I'm good to go as long as it has bluetooth. My phone on a mount can do anything an infotainment system can do.
My infotainment system in my '17 Tacoma is a joke as far as a modern infotainment system is concerned, but then again I bought it for the truck capabilities, not the entertainment capabilities. Toyota does seem to be way behind on that across all their models. My wife's '19 Subaru is like a damn space ship with all her gadgets.
ETA: I wish my truck had more of the computer driving capabilities like my wife's car. That is more important to me than entertainment screens.

Toyota keeps it simple. More sensors and gadgets are more shite to break.

Our Volvo has almost every user function in that big center screen. Volvo does a great job keeping the UI straightforward, but I would rather have at least some hard buttons for the climate control.
The earlier versions of the BMW and Cadillac infotainment screens were criticized a lot, but the latest version of both of their systems are probably among the best - and IMO the right balance between hard buttons and screen functionality. Mercedes has also been updating theirs in the past year, and it's gotten much better.
Toyota, Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti are WAY behind with infotainment functionality and user experience. Toyota only just got Carplay a year or two ago, and have been very slow in bringing their latest system online. You'd think a big company like that could sink more cash into a better infotainment UI. Chrysler, Jeep, Chevrolet, Ram, GMC, Buick, Ford, Lincoln, and VW all have better infotainment systems than the Japanese brands.

It’s a big factor for me. I have a ton of windshield time in my truck so infotainment, heated/cooled/massage seats, CarPlay, adaptive cruise etc were a big deal. Fords lower tier of trucks have tiny screens

My 11 year old ride has a nice LCD monochrome text line that can display about 10 alphanumeric symbols.

Its really just GM that lacks interiors, looks like a early 2000s Boom box on the inside.

I don't like controlling everything in the car on a glorified iPad screen. I like a touch screen SatNav radio, but prefer dials and buttons for climate control and other functions.

Same fricking interior as everyone else. hell I could argue against your claim and say the big screens dont have buttons the always break 3 years into owning the vehicle.

I thought they were dumb until we test drove a Lexus with the screen. Now it's mandatory for my wife. We're still shopping though.

I have been told by those within the car/dealership industry that this is a strategic part of the decision process for the Toyota/Nissan/Honda brands..
They tend to wait to adapt newer gadgets/technology/features so as to maintain their brand's reliability perception/record...
Not sure of the truth of that but there it is...

No, I don't want a huge screen, just Bluetooth and and a usb port does it for me.
