But hey. I get it. This thread is full of lefties who would almost certainly have agreed with me friggin 4 years ago on this but can't now, because Trump.
This is virtually a certainty. From my previously posted link:
quote:
The Obama administration previously put a policy in place allowing some athletes to go to the pros and defer their military service. That policy allowed Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds to be drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2016 draft after completing a four-year run with the Midshipmen. But the year after he went pro, the Defense Department rescinded the policy.

So these commitments college athletes make are now even more meaningless in the era of transfer portals and athletes who may bloom into superstars while at a military academy?
Meh. Kid still has to serve eventually.
quote:Don't really care.
I wonder what Roger Staubach thinks about this.
My opinion is my own.

Something our resident TDS folks can't comprehend because their opinions can be 100% predicted by simply waiting for Trump to say something

What Obama did it as well? Oh no that changes things for a few posters.

quote:Well David Robinson joined the academy because he wanted to serve. He donated a ton of money to his community.
w this.
I'm merely pointing out that the fact he was Navy was NEVER forgotten.
Hence, the PR benefit.

Would you like to inform us as to why the Defense Department rescinded the similar Obama policy?

The notion that disagreeing or questioning Trump makes one a liberal soy boy is intellectually lazy, tiring and straight out of the Pravda playbook.

There is and always has been a weird attitude of, "hey, I got fricked, so why shouldn't the new 22 year old get fricked too" type of leadership thinking.
I say this as a 23 year vet.

If I were knowledgeable enough about it I would.
Bottom line...the Commander-in-Chief ultimately sets DoD policy. Take it up with the Constitution.

There are posts IN THIS THREAD that act as if the only reason anyone agrees with Trump on this is Trump worship.
Alas, this is a subject that has been discussed on here LONG before Trump

Isn’t the military supposed to be about the collective and not the individual? Does this not undermine that?

quote:A horrible tool for recruiting. Eo's can be undone at anytime. Further recruiting a kid with the promise of getting out of service if they go pro will blow up 90% of the time when they aren't good enough. A lot of the high school kids think the are a shoe in to go pro.
Another tool for recruiting.

They still have to serve their commitment. They just get the opportunity to play pro ball for a while. Y’all freaking about nothing. It’s jot like he’s trying to let women in the military or anything crazy like that.
Posted on 12/14/19 at 4:36 pm to GeauxxxTigers23
So this will absolutely not cause any dissension in the locker room?
It seems to me, in that regard, it’s as much of a poison pill as allowing women in the service. Different people get different rules.

Individuals get promoted is that counter to the collective?

Aren't good enough you say?

That's bullshite. You want to play pro ball? Don't go to a Service Academy, and take away an appointment from some kid who wants to serve.
Providing a little discipline to the NFL could be a good thing could it not? You don't have to brandish a weapon to serve.
