After yesterday’s game it’s very clear (defense related)

It’s very clear after yesterday’s dominant defense performance over a team that was averaging 400 yards a game, that aranda was using the prior games as practice for things he/we knew we weren’t that good at. When we have needed to scheme big stops we have done it. I have to believe that he knew we needed to get game reps at zone coverage and wanted to force the line to get better at pass rush head up.

That has been my suspicion all year. He has seen what happens when you lose a key player here and there to injury. He appears to have been prepping for near future and getting guys into different looks. Also has played a lot of young guys this back half of the season. Those guys now have 5-6 games under their belt

Yeah, he was using actual games to practice shitty tackling.

Confidence in Mo Hampton playing center field and freeing up Delpit to get after the QB made a big difference.

bullshite. You don’t ever allow Bama to hang 40 on your because you want to “try new things”

I didn’t say “trying new things” I said working on basics we suck at like head up pass rush and zone coverage. I’d hardly say these are “new things”

I've seen this in prior games with Aranda: infamously in 2017 vs Troy; then the next two weeks v Florida and Auburn the defense played lights out.
Also this year after Vandy; next week vs Utah State, a solid defensive effort. Same back in 2016: game up 39 points and 500+ yards to the Aggies and came through with a stellar game v Louisville in the Citrus.

These takes are so stupid

It seems like a mix of figuring out best players for certain schemes, getting guys game reps, working on shite with certain guys, trying new things out, and just flat out getting out coached at times. I don't think he was fricking around at Bama or with UF or Auburn. I think the defense just genuinely hadn't had it truly click yet and he made some bad fricking play calls to boot. A&M was a complete game for Aranda and the defense. He wasn't fricking around and trying new things or working on shite. He dialed up pressure all night on Mond and let our freak athletes make plays. The defense and he appear to be confident with their skills and talent now and ready to make the last push to immortality.

I just think Aranda was playing too cautiously at times and not trusting his athletes, with one notable exception when he should have been more cautious. . Vincent improving, Hampto and Brooks emerging also freed him up to be more aggressive.

Ole Miss had nothing to do with us experimenting. Players lost focus and got sloppy in that second half.
The defense has weaknesses on d line but we have done ok.

The coaches coached, and the team played like they were frickING PISSED OFF for the entire 60 minutes (well, until we pulled the starters on offense).
End of story.
End of story.

I said this last week and the week before. Play Chassion, Brooks, Delpit, and Stevens all near the LOS but let the safeties rotate in coverage and send a different blitz every passing down then keep a cover one guy out there.
Hampton seems perfect for this because he recognizes the run and plays it well like Delpit. Delpit is a LOS safety. The way we used him last year is how he should be used at all times. At this time he’s just not a pure cover guy. Now he has the skills to change that but it’ll take him some time in the nfl or if the right coach gets a hold of him, he could adapt quickly. He’s talented enough. He’s not there at this time though so play to his strengths.
Aranda played to our defenses strengths last night and it showed up big time. I’ve been waiting for this all darn year and I have no idea why we haven’t been using our personnel to come up with a multitude of blitz packages. That’s how we’re built at this time. We don’t have the pass rushers or the quickness to cover the edges in the run game or get pressure on the QB consistently.
I want to see how we play GA in this game because if you get pressure on Fromm he’s a completely different QB. This DL is made to stop the middle running attack but that’s about it. They need help on the edges from our safeties and LBs in a bad way. I love the pressure package with all our speed rushers on the field at the same time rushing the QB.
Here’s another issue I’ve seen over the years that LSU needs to start practicing. How to finish the rush and actually stay in control when you’re about to sack the QB. Our guys seem to go so hard that the slightest movement throws their balance all off. Have them start dictating the oppositions movement. Teach them to stay in control when you close in and to think ahead. Use fakes to dictate where they will move so our guys can anticipate where they will go. May not work every time but instead of going after them like a mad man, stay in control and finish the play. Use your speed to get to the QB but once you get there make sure you finish the play.

Aranda should get the LBs and DBs on the jugs machine this spring, summer. Besides the tackling miscues, our defense has dropped way too many possible ints this season.

Didn’t quite get the point of the OP did you?
This year’s defense has been a work in progress with zone defense versus man to man plus working around injuries.
My trust is in our coach.

2017 vs Troy
Pitiful fumblin, bumblin, INT throwin, 0/9 on 3rd, meddled-with offense couldn't move the ball, maybe had a little something to do with it?
The offense gifted 14pts to Troy, and if Battle hadn't forced a fumble inside Troy 10, LSU wouldn't have scored a single point until middle of 4th qtr.
Aranda is to blame though.
