Now he knows how the rest of us feel.

Yeah, it was all their fault.

He lost bc Gus tricked him into a penalty to ice it. It was glorious. He was plainly out coached in the defining moment of the game and made to look like a dolt.

We lost to Troy in the same exact situation. I do think it’s messed up in a way that a team can set up for a fg when there is no way in hell that they get an opportunity if the clock operator stopped the clock with 1 second instead of it running out. But at least it happened to Bama

Bottom line is Saban was out-coached at the end

I love that the officials didn't favor Bama on the two crucial calls at the end of each half, but I saw the Bama DBs mugging Auburn's receivers all night an not getting called for it. The big takeaway, though, is that kickers are Saban's kryptonite. He lost b/c the other team's kicker was making tough FGs all game, and his kicker couldn't make a gimme at the end of the game.

This should probably be looked at as a rule change at some point. I think there is a reasonable run-off of clock that could be put in. But the refs called both plays correctly given the current rules, so how can you blame the refs for anything?

I’m not I just think it’s stupid to allow a fg unit or an offense to lineup when without a time out they couldn’t have

No they didn't. The ref is supposed to stand over the ball before the hike. The time should have expired.

With 1:17 remaining, Auburn lined up to punt on its own 26-yard line and gave Alabama one last chance to either tie or win the game. The Auburn coaches desperately wanted to keep the ball out of the hands of Alabama star Jaylen Waddle, who had already burst to near the front of 2020 Heisman Trophy lists with a transcendent four-touchdown performance.
So Auburn left quarterback Bo Nix in the game and also substituted in punter Arryn Siposs, the Trojan horse who lined up at wide receiver. The plan was to sneak him in the game and then motion him over to punt, which in theory would have kept Waddle off the field.
Instead, chaos ensued on the Alabama sideline. The coaches sent Waddle in the game to return the punt the moment they identified Siposs on the field. But then Saban sent in the defense when he saw Nix still in the game. Word didn’t get to Waddle quick enough on the other end of the field, where he awaited the punt. The penalty for having too many men on the field, Alabama’s 13th of the day, turned the fourth-and-4 punt play into a first down and Auburn victory formation. “We caught them,” said defensive back Smoke Monday.
After the game, Saban looked the part of a hoodwinked coach who’d guzzled a gallon of sour milk. “I really feel it was a pretty unfair play at the end of the game.”

yes because that's what they are supposed to do when setting the ball after a first down clock stoppage. The refs stopping the clock for review is irrelevant. Once the review ended, the ref should have set the ball and stood over it until everyone was set. Once the ball is set by the ref the clock starts.
So he sets it, clock starts, teams set, ball is hiked. That's how it is supposed to be done.

What are you talking about? That was done by the book. The review allowed the FG Team to get on the field. The snap just had to be executed in a second, which is not an issue.

To be fair, if you go back and watch that series, every first down that Auburn got the clock ran for 2+ seconds after the whistle was blown. I know that happens a lot, but at the end of halves, the time on the clock should be an emphasis for the officials.

That chubby a Bama dude has great hair, no homo. Love the facial shrug though!
