The study argued that the optimal amount of money it takes to be happy varies worldwide. “That might be surprising as what we see on TV and what advertisers tell us we need would indicate that there is no ceiling when it comes to how much money is needed for happiness, but we now see there are some thresholds,” said Andrew T. Jebb, a doctoral student and the lead author of the Purdue University study, in a press release.

The research specifically sought to pinpoint the amount where money no longer changes your level of emotional well-being and “life evaluation.” Emotional well-being was measured according to a person’s day-to-day emotions, including happy, excited, sad and angry. Life evaluation was defined in terms of overall life satisfaction and was “likely more influenced by higher goals and comparisons to others.”

So “frick you” level money....

$112,875

So they’re saying there’s no difference emotionally from $112k and $9 mil a year? Research seems pretty skewed and subjective.

I hate BS stories like this. If someone wants to be happy they can be happy on much much less. Somehow we’ve become brainwashed into thinking we have to have money to be happy. It’s more about attitude then money.

Once upon a time I wanted to move to NYC for a year or 2...with the fam.

I could make 1 mil and not be happy as long as Comrade DiBlasio runs things.

I don't mind waking up in the middle of nowhere; I mind how little there is for me to do afterwards.

The numbers are actually higher than I expected.

Plenty of people in the world who are making well into six figure range and are miserable.

My happiness is not tied to my income.

I have been very poor and have been extremely comfortable and my happiness has always come from within not my income.

I was happy making $15k a year and nearly starving and have been happy making 7 figures or more.

I have a buddy who owns several planes he leases out to very high net worth (think B net worth) people. More of them are unhappy than the average population. It’s crazy how many people flying a G650 to Switzerland for a ski trip are unhappy. It’s definitely not about the Benjamins.

I am set in this case. However while I can afford NYC I prefer it where I am so I can be SUPER happy.

If we did a poll on the OT. The majority would say the best days of their lives were when they were a broke arse college student
