From The Advocate this morning...
LSU has gone all Ferrari on offense, but title hopes rest on defense catching up

These are obviously just numbers, but I found it interesting. This is also in the article...

LSU goes into its penultimate regular season game Saturday against Arkansas ranked 47th nationally allowing 367.8 yards per game

Including LSU’s most recent national title season in 2007, 10 of the past 12 national champions have finished in the top 10 nationally in total defense, including LSU that year (third allowing 288.8 yards per game). The only exceptions: Ohio State ranked 19th in 2014 (342.4 ypg allowed) and Auburn with Cam Newton quarterbacking finished 60th in 2010 (368.4 ypg).

Former Tigers like Jacob Hester said LSU has been forced to play more zone defense than ever before because man defense is too taxing if LSU’s offense is going to insist on these multiple two-minute scoring drives.

Sorry but man or zone doesn’t make you take shitty angles and not wrap up.
It doesn’t matter if it’s man or zone if Patrick Queen fills the wrong gap and lazily lets the QB run right by him.
It doesn’t matter if it’s man or zone if Delpit can’t put a finger on a guy that runs a post route in front of him.
Check my post history I haven’t went at the defense at all in over a month but I’m sick and tired of them using the offensive success as a reason they can’t be half arse decent.
I’m also sick and tired of seeing our Heisman candidate in the game in the 4th quarter against teams that aren’t gonna be bowl eligible because our 2.5 million dollar coordinator can’t stop an 18 year old running a read option.
Offense shouldn’t slow down. Defense needs to catch up. This lack of effort, complacency, piss poor technique and bad play calls falls at Arandas feet. He has to be better

LSU’s offense is going to insist on these multiple two-minute scoring drives.

Well the once proud LSU defense is now a joke to the rest of the CFB world,if that’s not motivation to improve they never will

The horror.

What’s the difference between a 3 play scoring drive and all the 3 and outs our offense has had over the last 10 years? It’s just not a viable excuse.

This offense will bring the Natty back to LA. Defense, lol, Aranda is a joke. LSU is getting robbed everyday.

The defense dictates how long the defense is on the field.

The problem is the stupid Cheetah package. Aranda insist on 3rd down to play one down lineman(Lawrence) and bring in two 200lb LBs to rush off the edge with 8 playing zone.
Bama concerted 3&10,3&25,3&10;3&19,4&5,4&4 on the package

Our defense sucks dick. The only reason we may not win it all is because of them
Posted on 11/23/19 at 8:19 am to TigerLunatik
And the other side effect of the defense sucking is Myles Brennan hasn’t gotten nearly as many reps as we would’ve wanted or what he needs

Man defense is too taxing
This says to me thst they are not done recruiting dbs.
If we can get more Elias ricks and hit on some three stars like flott, aranda will be able to play man more.
I assume going forward, that of the 25 scholarships 13 or 14 will have tii on go to defense.

I love Jacob Hester but honestly, I don't want to hear a guy who has continually defended Les Miles offensive system criticize one of the best offenses that college football has ever seen.
Opinion: DENIED

Defense obviously has work to do. To me it's more of a consistency issue than scheme and such. At times, we absolutely shut teams down. Almost every game has stretches where the defense played lights out.
It's almost like the defense isn't mentally prepared all game. Past years with the slow ball control inconsistent offenses that we had the team had to rely on the defense to win games, now with a high powered offense the defense gets sloppy.
The difference between a 3 minute TD drive and a 3 and out is the TD. Mentally it's not on the defense to win the game, just to slow them down enough to keep the lead. But every game we either get a big lead then the defense gets sloppy and let's the other team back in the game, or the defense starts out sloppy then adjusts and shuts the opponent down the rest of the game.
I'd love to see us dominate all game just like everyone else, but I see enough good from this defense to be confident that they will step up when needed and the team can get it done.

Not for nothing, but this thread reminds me of a teenage girl complaining about the floor mats of her BMW that daddy bought her for graduation.
Just fricking win the game.

I'm curious what the national champion offense finished the season ranked. I won't have time to go look at it today, but I'll take a look this week or maybe tonight and compare some numbers.

Our offense was on the field longer than our defense against Ol Miss.

all that bs has been debunked here with actual TOP numbers basically being even on both sides of the ball AND the plays per game

This is why I wish people would quit crying about the defense.
They make the stops needed to mount a huge lead any ways.
I don’t want change to affect the most efficient offense I have ever seen.

i understand the sentiment, but thats what makes this offense so dangerous, aggression.
if you can score on 1 play, you do it, over and over again.
Defense just needs to hold serve and make plays
