With a friend who said her Cajun friend from Houma informed her that’s the way a lot of people eat it there.

I like to stand next to them because I can mow through while they are dipping. Same with the corn/potato eaters.

Cane's sauce is $ for dipping crawfish tails

My sister-in-law does this every boil. She'll put out several bowls of a creamy pink looking dip on the tables. Personally, I like the taste of the boiled crawfish and don't need to cover that with a mayo based bowl of slop.

Erryboddy I grew up with makes seafood dip. You use it, or not, as you prefer at a boil. It’s a cousin sauce to the British classic Marie Rose sauce, or to Thousand Island dressing.

Exactly how I feel about potato salad in gumbo. I love potato salad on its own and love mayo and mustard. But I don't need it mucking up my gumbo.
Disclaimer before someone from Lafayette loses their shite: To each their own, of course. I'm not saying my way is the "right" way or anything like that. It's just my personal preference.

DTB all the way, cher, from the same town as Coach O. OP references someone from Houma, and seafood sauce/dip is common all over the Houma/Thib area.

It’s not a big deal man. Back in the day people would buy canes sauce by the cup for boils. I don’t use it but it’s ok for others if they choose.

Crushing and sucking the head is my “dip”.

I’m down with shoehorning mayo into any meal

Can confirm. It's almost just a formality to have it at this point. Most people just use it for potatoes, corn, or to break up the flavor monotony every once in awhile.

I make the best crawfish dip, me
Posted on 11/21/19 at 7:46 am to Sampson
I never saw it until I started going DTB with my wife's family. They're all Lockport people and they have it at every boil. shite's good on the potatoes. I'll occasionally dip the tails in it, too. Shrimp as well.
