Have we reached the time where MANDATORY military service should be instated?

Has the United States reached a point where it would be in the best interest of the country to institute a mandatory military service upon the age of 18/HS graduation (or drop-out)?
As a society, we are sending FAR too many millions of 18 year olds into the world who are woefully ill-prepared. We have MORE than enough military service that can be executed by people age 18-20 both domestically as well as around the world.
We have a massive need for National Guardsmen to protect our cities & towns during marches, subsequent "I'm offended" riots, gang related fights, etc. in addition to humanitarian efforts to clean up the homeless, clean up & repair downtrodden areas of cities/town, orphan children needing role models, & countless gov't office/department jobs that need cheap labor to clean up years of back log.
In terms of world-wide impact, getting these 18-20 year olds out of their parents' homes & into the real world to help our own country's interests as well as our allies in various war torn, recovering, etc locales could really give our young people the multi-skills training & the perspective they need to serve their time then decide to be a career serviceman or come home & do something POSITIVE with their lives.
Come on, we are the OT. This place solves murders & problems all the time. Let's use our powers for GOOD to hammer out some quality brainstorming to put a strong plan together.

Nothing the military needs more than a bunch of green-haired, over-medicated, anxious trannies.

You want the 60/70s all over again when soldiers don’t give a flip and toke it up in Nam huh? Because this is how you get that.

In general, no.
Having highly trained and motivated individuals tends to be a much better fighting force than a bunch of conscripts who really don’t want to be there.

The all volunteer Army is kind of a big deal, I would not screw with it.

frick no and Semper Fi!
I do like the idea of national service though. My grandfather always spoke fondly of the CCC and if you've visited any national park, you've probably walked on a trail or driven on a road they constructed.

No, and drafts are disgusting.

Nope, don't need dead bodies in the arm services at this point. Already have to many now.

As a younger person I wish we could make everyone go through basic and do a year of non-combat service when they graduate high school. It should instill some discipline and work ethic. Unfortunately, while this has worked in the past for places like Germany/Prussia and Israel now for example, it won't work here because of the "me-centric" culture.

I'm in my 28th year of service and I think military service would benefit a lot of people, but I'm 100% against mandatory military service.

Yep, you get it Red Sox- discipline is simply out the window today with young people...
