I quantity does not equal quality.

I wonder how half the people got out of basic training that I come across. No way do I want some soy boy who is forced to be there to be in my unit with me. My platoon is severely undermanned but I'll take the 16 guys over a fully man platoon of shite bags.

meh, you could transition to prep everyone for it, starting in hs, works pretty well in other places, LSU used to require all male frosh to be in ROTC up until 1970? I think

No.

The military is not for everyone. We waste too much time and money washing out people who have no business serving as it is now.

But with 100% mandatory service you're going to have a lot of folks that didn't GAF about high school or just straight up dropped out.

then send their asses straight to boot camp, I think that's part of the objective, toughen their asses up and make them want something better?

Absolutely not.

Mandatory ____________ is awful.

Let people be free from government as much as possible.

That simple, huh? Send 'em to boot camp and they'll suddenly "want something better"?

I think LSU ended it earlier than that. My paw paw used to talk about being in it occasionally but my dad started in '67 and he wasn't in it.

We would be better off stopping all forms of welfare for the able bodied.

And building a bunch of new prisons for the people who would rather steal than get a job.

How many sons do you have, OP? If you have any, they can go first.
If you have none, you can go first.

OK. Agree to disagree. Like I said before, just keep them separate and distinct from the actual military.

I’m w 777. I’ve never met anyone who served who wasn’t a raging success.

Military, no.

But 2 years of community service should be incentivized with college assistance.
