All work on the new Harbor Bridge in Corpus Christi, TX was put on hold and the company that designed and is building the bridge has been "suspended" from the project. This goes back to the pedestrian bridge that collapsed last year Florida, NTSB found the company had design flaws and shotty workmanship on that project. Good to see TxDot doing their job, better to catch issues now rather than waiting for a collapse, it will be interesting to see the outcome of all of this.

Once complete it will be the longest cable stay bridge in the US.

My company is/was in negotiations with them to do some subcontractor work, that was one of the first questions they asked me in our first meeting.

Yeah, it was a bunch of women in leadership/ownership positions. Six deaths and tens/hundreds of millions of dollars is a small price to pay for progress.

This looks like the similar bridge design that collapsed in Florida. A center support with cantilever design. There is a reason to have two supports on each side of a bridge in lieu of one center support. Well that's because it works!! Not to say this wont work but why go against what has shown to work for decades. It may look cool but to the eye it looks like a challenging structural design.

There have been thousands of bridges supported by single column type piers. It does work perfectly well and has for decades. If your theory is how the world should work, then we should have rectangular steel boxes with 4 wheels as cars.

Wouldn't want to do anything challenging, would we? Hell, why even have that bridge? Build a road AROUND the harbor. MUCH less challenging and it works.
