Has anyone ever had a full-blown SAP implementation that went on time and on budget?

ERP in general is fraught with vendor lock-in peril and consultants that don’t want to leave so they build Rube Goldberg devices.

You should write an Access front end for it.

Have you ever sat and counted out the number of systems you have to use to get shite done at work? How many different usernames and passwords with differing complexity and history requirements?

Do you even SSO bro?

My company does have several systems with SSO, but there are loads of other web-based software systems and such that I have to access and use for my job. Not to mention personal use sites that I use outside of work.

SAP is an amazing and powerful program. It is not for the weak minded.

I spend several hours a week resetting and requesting my usernames/passwords for every stupid thing. And now this stupid new 2 step verification process for everything makes me want to deepthroat a muffler.

You have to do that because fricktards in your workplace, mine, and everyone elses' can't seem to keep from clicking on random fricking links in emails and inputting their credentials.

"Oh, hey, I have no idea who sent me this document but let me click on it then put in my O365 username and password when it asks me for it!"

See? Someone else gets it.

I think this is intentional to frustrate the masses so we will all be okay with moving to biometric authentication for everything, right? Look at the face-recognition unlocking systems on iPhones . . . so convenient. . . and I'm sure the use of our facial-recognition data won't be exploited by the companies who own the systems we use (and the government). . . . wait where is my tinfoil hat?

Ok. Then it's to frustrate the intelligent folks?

Yes yes it’s probably not SAP’s fault that whoever implemented it for the company I work for set it up
In such a difficult to use way, but man it takes for ever to get simple shite done

I understand it’s power and completely get why C Level Execs live it (yes I know everyone on the OT but me is a C something O) but needing to use it for expense reports, or purchases less than $500 (practically rounding errors), And time off requests is just absurd. Oh well

I’ve heard this everywhere I’ve been. What would be an example of this?

It's pretty easy to use with repetition and makes my job easy. I wouldn't want to work anywhere at this point that wasn't on SAP

Bingo.

Complaining about a top tier ERP system like SAP/Oracle is like whining about your Mercedes when the other affordable options out there are Kia and Hyundai.

Your only other viable option is to have a customized ERP solution built from ground up and will run 3xs the cost of SAP/Oracle.
Like if you upgraded from your C Class Mercedes to a Bentley.

Which is exactly why so very many people hate it with such a passion.

It's always the right tool for what the salesmen convince the CIO the Board of Directors might want to do at some indeterminate time in the future, but it never makes it any easier to get stuff done now.

And even getting it up to the point of a semi-failed deployment pulls talented people away from doing things that would actually be helpful to the organization. And more and more people and resources get flushed down the toilet as the deployment date approaches.

Yeah, let me just find the schedule management page, and set up a travel event.

It doesn't happen often or on purpose for that matter. But an example would be using one Module of SAP like accounting or inventory management. But keeping your other Business units separate: Purchasing, HR, Sales, Maintenance, Project Management, etc.

The value in SAP is that everything is linked for efficiencies and analytics. You can analyze maintenance costs via inventory used and general ledger entries for example. That's 3 modules right there that were disconnected before the advent of ERP systems.

Or say an engineer is in the Project Mangement module and designing a new pipe to connect some shite. The inventory managment module will tell him what materials and stock items are available, the procurement module will tell him lead times and so forth for planning the project, etc.

People hating on SAP and any ERP system for that matter are stupids.

Getting the super clap, black syphilis, and herpes from a Tijuana whore is better than dealing with Oracle.
