I wear scentlok clothing and ozone it between hunts. Shower with unscented soaps and use unscented deodorant. I have noticed big improvements over just using scent killing sprays. Of course I play the wind also. If I am really set on hunting a stand and the wind doesn’t cooperate, I use the ozone machine I built based on the archery talk thread linked above. But I am convinced that ozone treatment of clothing is a huge benefit, and I would’ve swore it was all bs before I tried it.

New to hunting, but how important is scent lock when hunting a box stand? I can see where it would have an impact when hunting a ladder or tripod stand, but does your scent as big of an issue when hunting a box stand?

It works like a charm. I am fanatic about scent but I finally gave up two years ago and added ozone system. I had hogs and deer with 10 feet of me for so long it was bizarre. I couldn’t even scratch my nose for 45 minutes.

I use carbon infused clothes, very careful with detergent, soap toothpaste etc, no facial hair, clean my body like crazy, use pine oil to cover oils in hair etc, Hunt wind and always try to go 25 feet up. But ozone works

But ozone works

There is absolutely no scientific proof of that. Your scent is at the bottom of the tree you climb or the stand you get in. If they are underneath you the ozone thingy isn't working at all.

I used to wear scentloc and spray myself down. It's all BS gimmicks and a money racket.

Myth busters has a guy dressed in a gas mask and plastic suit, rubber boots, head to toe with "no way" of his scent getting out. He went hide a few hundred yards away.

A tracking dog found him in minutes. A deer smells much better than a dog. You can't fool them with some electronics BS, spray, scentless soap, dirt wafers etc. Every time you walk you have scent particles leaving your body and falling to the ground.

Just because you see deer doesn't mean they don't smell you.

Can’t agree more. The hunting industry is interested in making money selling shite.

You NEED this scent eliminating gadget.
You NEED this new 6.5 cartridge that does the same exact thing as at least two other cartridges that already existed before it.
You NEED the latest camo pattern.
You NEED a $500 ice chest.

Stop falling for gimmicks.

Dogs have roughly 220 million olfactory receptors. A whitetail deer has over 290 million. Humans have about 5 million.

Save your money. Climb higher.

I wash my clothes in baking soda, usually spray my boots down before waking in and most importantly, hunt the wind as much as possible. I know one of those works. Not sure how much the other two help.

I've never used one, but a buddy bought one to try and increase his chances on killing a monster buck he had on camera. The buck would never come into bow range for almost a month, so I told him to leave it at home. He killed the buck on the next hunt. Like my Dad and many others have said, bucks don't get that big by being stupid.

If non of that stuff works like advertised, why isn’t there any lawsuits?

Think for a minute about fishing lures. The banjo minnow, the flying lure, that electronic one that worked so good states were making it illegal.

Now think about the health supplement industry and all the "all natural" snake oils they sell to anyone listening.

The auto industry with its "mystery oil" that fixes engine wear or the tornado air insert that increases fuel mileage, or the polishes that restore scratched and even burned paint.

How many of the things that I named work as well as advertised?

P. T. Barnum said "there's a sucker born every minute".

I'm sorry, I just don't believe ozonics work, just like I don't believe you can beat a deers nose.

Scent control? Ha. My uncle just smokes grape cigarillos. Kills more than anyone I know.

My dad used skunk scent and couldn’t hardly ride with him in the truck, but killed hammers all the time. As long as it isn’t human scent, deer really don’t seem to care. I’ve used the Ozonics, but really don’t use it, not because it doesn’t work, cause it does destroy scent, but it’s very harmful. Can’t let Ozone tough your skin or especially breath it in, and that’s my problem. It would kick off my asthma, and I would cough, and that wasn’t good Bow hunting. If you use it point it down wind and let it reduce the scent trail. I’ve really abandoned it and will try a negative ion fan I picked up on amazon for 30 bucks. It’s not harmful, but sends negative charge particles that purifies the air by causing charged particles to stick to anything nearby, even scent particles from our skin. That’s the theory, anyway. Will report back after I use it this week....

I think a lot of folks underestimate the ability of a deer's nose. If you could smell as well as a deer, you could come home when your wife was cooking dinner and tell her every ingredient and how much in every dish she had on the stove.

Cover scents have to be the biggest gimmick out there and probably do more harm than good. Once a deer has smelled the cover scent and you, then it becomes a red flag every time the deer smells it. I'd bet my left nut that most deer associate nose jammer with danger. I bet that ozone has a smell that deer can pick up also.

What a deer does when he smells you really comes down to that deer's tolerance for human presence. At Clear Creek, those deer have a zero tolerance policy. One molecule and they are gone. Where i hunt in Oklahoma, deer don't seem near as alarmed by human scent, likely due to light hunting pressure and the large amount of daily interaction with the rancher and family.

I try to keep myself and my clothes clean and use the "hunting" soap and detergent, because I worry much more about the scent I leave walking in than the scent coming off me in the tree. Save your money and hunt the wind.

He is correct about ozone it’s not good for you. I typically use it on climbers and hang on stands. Please let us know if that works.

My pine oil is the same theory your grandfather used with skunk oil. The pure oil you get from health foods stores for use in oil diffusers is very strong. I put it my hands and then wipe down my face neck hair and any exposed skin. I also put in in my hair and use pine scent soap. I smell like a damn tree. Top it off with doe pee, pine scent wafers and I am a freaking tree. They have cedar and oak too.

If they make battery powered scent diffusers that would work great too

In a box they may work with scent going out of window.

But, hanging in a tree? No way. There is no way all of your scent is mixing with the ozonics. A deer can smell extremely good.

Plus, I don't want to breath that stuff.

Who here has actually used one for a month or a season, and says they don’t work on a straight line wind? I’ll admit if the wind is switching or blowing in excess of 15mph they won’t work.

Have y’all actually used them, or are y’all just assuming they don’t work? I have been using them since 2012

Humans can’t fathom how well dogs can smell.A narcotics officer told me about drug sniffing dogs.Guys put marijuana in 2” pvc pipe with ends glued, put that in 4” pvc pipe with moth balls and end caps glued.Dogs can still smell the marijuana.
Consider that deer has more scent receptors than a dog, virtually impossible to beat a deers nose.
I’ve had beagles that could trail a rabbit across gravel and blacktop roads. Not fast but they could do it.A rabbit has about the least scent of any game animal I’ve ever sniffed.

I get what you are saying. That doesn’t mean that Ozonics don’t work or aren’t worth using.
