Celebrating Adele's weight loss isn't a compliment –

it's fatphobia
oh and
suck it, shitlords

For me, this was far from unexpected. It merely confirmed that we live in a society which idealises thinness and celebrates weight loss as inherently positive. The underlying premise behind the reaction to Adele’s photos was a) the assumption that her “old” body was “wrong” and b) that she made a deliberate and “healthy” choice.
In reality, this reaction is just a series of backhanded compliments. Saying that she looks good now, is just a more subtle form of body shaming that masquerades as a compliment. By glamourising this terrible concept of the “revenge-body”, we are saying that fitness and eating well are tools to be weaponised against a former relationship as opposed to a positive choice we should all be making. It centres our value in our physical appearance, and the idea that bigger bodies are not worthy of a fulfilling relationship.
At its worst, the fixation on Adele’s post separation “glow up” reveals our deep rooted societal fatphobia, in which skinniness is valued at any detrimental cost and equated with attractiveness.

Correct.
Just like smoking cessation is inherently positive

So should we say, ‘congrats on the additional 10-30 years of life”? Sound better?

They say a picture says a 1,000 words, but I’m not hearing the Adele before and after pic saying all that psychobabble.

She’s still ugly so who cares?

HAES and body positivity movements have some merits, but man the vocal minority in those groups are really god damn stupid.

I was really hoping someone would come out and say this. Kudos to them.

For those wondering if the author is skinny... just kidding you all know what she looks like.

I’d like to call her and say, “Hello, I’ve always wanted to wish Someone Like You congratulations on no longer Rolling in the Deep dish pizza”
Posted on 10/29/19 at 9:17 pm to SlowFlowPro
I still don’t find her that attractive.

That article had to be written by someone who didn't have the resolve to lose weight themselves. Even if she is spot on accurate, what the hell is wrong with fatphobia, anyway?
Germophobia isn't taboo. Neither are a bunch other extreme versions of normal concerns. I'm not trying to be overly meta, but why is there a fear of fatphobia? Is the want for perfection ones own self really that evil to people?

Sounds like this was written by Fatty McFatfat.

I'll translate:
"I'm upset Adele isn't still a fat slob like me"
"I'm upset Adele isn't still a fat slob like me"

Always love the point where they crazily cross the Danube.

This board has an obsession with fat women that borders on fetishism.

She is right about this. It grinds my gears when I see people boasting about losing a bunch of weight and a girl getting fit/smoking hot after her boyfriend dumped her. Did it occur to you that had you respected him/her enough to do that for them then maybe you wouldn’t have been left in the first place?
