The narrative is we can’t beat Bama so we don’t deserve to go if we lose. The narrative if we win is man we want to see that game again even though Bama plays no one. It’s unfair but that’s just the reality. We would need help to make the playoff with a loss to Bama if Bama beats us convincingly.

Correct. History tells us that a one-loss Bama will get in before a one-loss non-SEC conf champ.

If Bama doesn’t have the quality wins/resume, then we’ll start hearing about eye tests and quality losses again.

It will only matter if Auburn beats Bama too

The only thing that "matters" in this game is that LSU, in essence, is playing again for the right to rematch a team they beat on their home field, if they win. But they only get the rematch if they win an extra game.

I agree w/ everything except the last part. Say LSU were to go to the SECCG undefeated and then lose to a one loss UF or UGA. UGA/UF would take a spot in the playoff and the CFP committee wouldn't be able to put Bama in over LSU in that scenario.

Our history is going to damage our credibility. If we lose, we won't get the benefit of the doubt after scoring ZERO points two years in a row and getting blown out in a few other Bama games.

No. The reality is that LsU would fall from 1 to 8 or 9 most likely. It would take a lot of mayhem to get us back in the top four, especially with the consideration that no one outside of LSU fans have any interest in another LSU Bama rematch like 2011.

it matters for a lot of reasons, no matter what happens with the playoff.

If it’s a good close game...agree.

you may ultimately end up correct. but beating them up front will most likely give us the #1 seed and force bama to play ohio st or clemson in the semis.

that would be pretty nice.

Actually a rematch in the semis is very likely.

If both get in, I don’t see how the loser will be ranked above either Clemson or OSU assuming they are both undefeated.

Hopefully the committee will realize this is bullshite and seed LSU based on matchup not just 1-4.

you cant use history as the be all end all. every year is different outside of the SEC

Assuming Ohio St and Clemson are in...i can totally see a 1 loss Oklahoma conf champ getting in over a 1 loss Bama. probably not oregon though

You are correct. If LSU goes to the SECCG and loses that, Bama gets LSU's playoff spot by virtue of sitting at home.

That happened to Auburn a couple years ago when they lost to UGA after beating Bama.

Then UGA got the pleasure of being bent over in the NCG.

We should be Auburn fans for duration of reg season; like we do, they also have a want to beat Saban/Bama. A 2 loss Bama (if we beat them) will not be in playoffs.

I just don’t see how LSU could recover from a loss to Alabama. It’s not like we could exactly rehabilitate ourselves with the likes of Arkansas and A&M. If we lose, I think we’re out.
Well, Auburn could beat Bama after the loss..what would happen in that scenario?

It's more about getting bama in than it is about keeping LSU out.

That SECCG blowout gave Auburn two losses . LSU beat them earlier in the year.

eta. I agree it's bullshite. I loathe the CFP. I don't see the same scenario playing out if an SECCG loss is LSU's first loss on the season.

Seriously? Lsu would have played 4 top ten teams going 3-1. OU would have lost to an unranked team and no too 10 games.

it's not about OU. it's about Oregon. Clemson, SEC champ, and Big 10 champ are in. For two SEC teams to get in, that means 2 Power 5 conf champs are left out.

If Oregon runs the table the rest of the year, as they should, they'll be 12-1 with their only loss being a tight one to Auburn. They'll get in. The Committee isn't going to shun, again, the Pac 12 champ, especially not one that's 12-1, has a top 20 defense, and an NFL QB.

We need to beat Bama, win the West, and win the SEC.

Note: LSU did NOT score zero points versus Bama two years in a row. IN 2017 we scored 10 points in losing 10-24 in Tuscaloosa.

If Bama loses, it won't matter. If we lose, it will be over for us.
