Let my 7yo son watch Gremlins

He's never really watched a "scary" movie. I rented this one on prime so he can be introduced to his first scary movie. He was a little freaked out at first when the Gremlins first showed up, but loved it after the bar and movie theater scenes. He thought it was great. What are some other good old horror movies that a kid can watch for Halloween? He's seen Ernest Scared Stupid and Monster Squad too.
Honestly I think most of the old 80's horror movies are all funny as hell more than scary.
Edit: Here's what I've compiled so far from this thread for an under age 10 PG-13 Scary Movie List:
Gremlins
Gremlins 2
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Little Monsters
Monster Squad
Tremors
The Lost Boys
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Beetlejuice
Monster House
Edward Scissorhands
The Witches
The Worst Witch
Addams Family
Addams Family Values
Coraline
Corpse Bride
Arachnophobia
Goosebumps
Goosebumps 2
Monster Squad
Zombieland
Little Shop of Horrors
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters II
Ernest Scared Stupid
Hocus Pokus
Van Helsing
Dark Shadows

Why are you showing him a Christmas movie during Halloween season?

Gremlins 2 will definitely be coming up. Was thinking Maximum Overdrive, Tremors, maybe even Child's Play and Leprechaun

I can't watch those and I'm 40.

I had actually forgotten that it was a Christmas movie. Very underrated Christmas movie indeed, up there with Die Hard.

The only one that messed me up for a while was Pet Semetary. I watched it when I was about 6 or 7 and had nightmares for a long time after that one. So definitely staying away from that. He's not ready for Nightmare on Elm St. or some of the more hardcore movies yet.

Poltergeist
I wouldn't recommend Child's Play if he still has like a stuffed animal/toy he may associate with Chucky.
ETA:
While no means a horror movie (or a good movie) maybe something like Van Helsing that has those classic monsters, but is more of an action movie would be better.

It was released during the summer of '84. So I still dont' consider it a Xmas movie. Same as Die Hard.

I was six when Gremlins came out, and loved it. I still do.
I'm sure he has seen Hocus Pocus already. Another good Halloween flick for kids is Spaced Invaders.
Human Centipede would be a good watch for him.

I had a dream a few years back that a bunch of Gremlins were tapping on our windows and keeping my wife awake. She was complaining about it, so I loaded up my 12 ga and killed all those frickers. Then I get served a notice that I'm being sued by Warner Brothers for damages because they can't make Gremlins 3 anymore since all the gremlins are dead.

The goosebumps movie with Jack Black that came out a few years ago is actually very legit for a kid scary movie. We just let ours watch poltergeist....it freaked them out, but prob not in a scarred for life type way.

I haven't seen it, but that looks a little much from the trailer.
Another one that hit me, what about The Fly?

It's hard to find "light" horror movies like Gremlins. That movie has no cursing and no real gore either. It actually is famous for being one of the movies to help create the PG13 rating. It was rated PG when it came out and tons of people took young children to it for cute, cuddly Gizmo. They figured out they needed a rating between PG and R.
Many of the other movies listed in this thread are a huge step up in terms of graphicness and language.
7 is def young, so I'd keep it tame for another 2-3 years.

Teenage smoking and the use of the word “fig” in Monster Squad means that he’s ready for anything.

Poltergeist scared the hell out of me as a kid.

Stop pussyfooting with him. Get him on some Chainsaw Massacre ASAP! It will help toughen him up.
