Top 10 Pizzas in the NOLA Metro

I won't bore you with a meandering, garrulous diatribe on the history of the pizza in New Orleans. It seems that many of the insecure on this board object to such poetic and historical expeditions, annoyed and angered that someone they deem inferior, demented, and friendless might expand, festoon, or challenge the diminutive prison between their ears. With linguistic prudence and probity I will, with great encouragement from my many readers, embark on an updated top 10 pizzas of the NOLA Metro. For those who seek more on the city's pizza history, please refer to TulaneLSU's History of Pizza in New Orleans, now updated with additional images.
Very disappointing is that three of my previous top 10, including Nino's on Carrollton, the Sbarro in Canal Place, and Brooklyn Pizzeria are all gone. Nino's and Brooklyn, as it was eight years ago, would maintain their top rankings if they still existed. Just as the number of restaurants in the area offering pizza has increased, so too has the poverty of pizza quality increased. We live in a time of pizza expansion. The pizza boom of 2015 onward joins the ranks of fads of sushi (2000-2005), pho (2005-2010), and hamburgers (2010-2015). I hope pizza's gross expansion will be replaced by a fad to bring truly great ingredients to pizza in the city. Not a single pizzeria uses premium ingredients now. And sadly, there is no true pizzaiola left now that Nino Bongiorno has left. I pray that someone, perhaps someone reading this list, will tend to the art of pizza and honor it with the finest ingredients and artistic techniques that no pizza maker in this city currently possesses.
10. Tavolino Pizza
9. That's Amore
8. Venezia
7. Wit's Inn
6. Tower of Pizza
5. Blaze Pizza
4. Pizza Delicious
3. Louisiana Pizza Kitchen
2. Crescent City Pizza Works
1. Mid-City Pizza
*Ancora would have fallen around 8, but its political and moral agenda, which it pushed publicly this summer, makes me wretch. Domenica is one of the worst pizzas in this city. Each time I try to give it another chance, I am reminded why I would rather eat a pizza in the Sam's food court than at Domenica.
Bonus #11-20 (so I can preempt your wondering if I have tried certain others)
11. Mark Twain
12. Theo's
13. G's
14. Paladar
15. NY Pizza
16. Chuck-E-Cheese
17. Moe's
18. Slice
19. Domino's Mid-City
20. Deanie's (seafood pizza -- haven't had it in a few years though).

Agreed.
What about that new one downtown, Bonci. I thought it was pretty good.

I do not like Roman pizza and never have. And what Bonci serves I do not even classify as pizza. There is no sauce. It's simply a thick, foccacio-like bread with unusual toppings. The atmosphere in the restaurant is boring -- it feels like a soulless chain, even though there are only four in the world. I thought it was better leftover than fresh, which is quite unusual and furthers my argument that it is not a pizza. To me, it is closer to a muffuletta, though not a member of this species, than to pizza.

I am absolutely stunned that establishments you considered stellar at their craft are now failed and shuttered. Dumbfounded, I tell you...

“Actual pizza from Italy is not Pizza”. Got it.

Nino's closed because the owner moved back to Italy to care for his ailing father.
Brooklyn's declined and ultimately closed because its owner moved to California for family reasons. His pizza truck in San Jose is beloved there, and if he pulled up in NOLA, it would immediately become the best pie in town.
The third floor of Canal Place only has one or two food offerings now. No one eats there, but when Sbarro was operating there, it was the best in the CBD/FQ.

Now I am convinced you don't have a tongue.

I would add G’s to the list but that list blows so don’t add it.

I don't think you used festoon correctly.

There are no less than 30 pizzerias that would make the list before you would find Reginelli's, including individual Domino's, Chuck-E-Cheese, Mark Twain, Sicily's, Cici's, the Sbarro in Lakeside, Vieux Carre Pizza, Slice (remember how ballyhooed it was a decade ago before I exposed it as an average pie?), Theo's, NY Pizza, G's, Paladar, and Moe's. Reginelli's, Midway, and Domenica are tops only when it comes to most overrated pizza in New Orleans.
Darla, rather than humiliate I will attempt to edify you through an exercise. Find ten uses of the word festooned in classic literature. Read each ten times. Afterwards, consult the Oxford English Dictionary for a definition of that word. Then, with that newly attained knowledge, read the sentence in question again. Perhaps even diagram it, as that may help you focus. Post your observations after you have done that. In advance, you are welcome.

Feels random for this list.
Not to be picky, but I'm pretty sure its called Wits Inn.

I appreciate your correction. I will edit the late night post. Why do you feel it random? Their Thursday evening special is fantastic. $5 for a one topping. I am able to walk there, so it could be some hometown bias, but I really do enjoy the pizza there.

Even though I find your schtick laughable, this is a ridiculous statement and you should feel ashamed
