Solo was pretty good for a popcorn movie. It suffered from that abortion of a movie TLJ.

It’s a shame, Rey could have been an awesome character.

Hopefully since the leaks are GARBAGE

It some what rings true when you release your movies first and only full trailer 2 months before it opens in theaters. That isnt exactly how tent pole movies are usually handled given the finacial risks. Certainly not one that is suffering from lower than expected enthusiasm or interest.

If they are still in re-shoots with just two months to go before release they are in very dire straits. Usually at this point you are doing fine tuning for the movie. Trim 15 seconds off this scene for pacing. Touch up the CGI for that scene. Not shooting footage you are then going to have to go back and add effects too.

He might still pull it off but this has the stench of grisly death about it.

Your test audience can help tell you a film is ready or tell you it still needs changes, but part of the problem is knowing your audience well enough to get a good read.

Animal House was in danger of reshoots before its test screening. I don’t remember if it was by chance or design but it ended up being screwed for a bunch of former fraternity members who were at a conference in California. They loved it, so the film was locked down and made ready for release.

The original 1970s Wicker Man was having trouble getting released so they decided to screen it at colleges in the US to see if there was a market. Their chosen test school was LSU, which loved it, and convinced the powers that be to release it.

The problems come in with there being test audiences who don’t match the likely point audience.

I have trouble remembering specifics but I seem to recall a test audience for Wild Wild West In 1999 which showed it was a disaster in the making, not helped by the audience gong in thinking they were going to watch The Matrix, which was already released.

No amount of changes could have saved that film but your audience reactions were going to be very negative if you take a group of people who are looking for one type of picture (sci-fi action wire fu) and replace it with another (goofy western comedy).

That is never going to happen. It is already been reduced from producing a trilogy to preparing a treatment for a trilogy and writing one movie. It will bog down in development, and they will detatch.

They should just go back to the end of The Force Awakens and just start reshooting there.

This movie is aging well. Think it has to do with the subsequent shitshow they produced.

Wasn't TFA also? I remember hearing that Abrams was doing late reshoots then, too. I really like that movie.

They re-shot the entire third act of Rogue One and that turned out great.

The problem isn't that they're doing re-shoots, it's that they're doing them less than 2 months before release. That's a really bad sign. Abrams will be so crunched for time the editing of the new scenes will be mailed in.

Based on the dothraki in the trailer i'd say no doubt.

People need to learn the difference between pickups to help fill in what they already had and full on reshoots to re-write a large portion of the film.

The former is normal.

The latter is what happened to the Josh Trank version of Fantastic Four, which was a career killing shite show.
