Professional sports rules that don't make any sense?

I'll start with MLB:
1. DH
2. Outfield distances. They should be uniform across the league, IMO. The equivalent in other leagues would be different length football fields or differently sized basketball courts.
NFL:
1. Holding. Why is defensive holding a 5 yard penalty and offensive holding a 10 yard penalty?
2. Two minute warning.
NBA:
1. Shorter 3 point length from the baseline. The court should be widended a little.

NFL:
“Half the distance to the goal” on penalties that are near the end zone
Fumble out of the end zone is a touchback/turnover

Fumbling the ball through the end zone awards the defense the ball at the 20

I’ve never liked that shite either.

You saying you don’t understand the DH or do you mean you don’t agree with it?
And personally I think it would be fun if other sports were able to have different dimensions in their “home field”

Offsides in hockey/soccer
It should be on the teams to make sure each player on the other team is accounted for

Brush a WR on a 60 yard badly thrown pass in the end zone and you get the ball on the 1.
Too many teams deliberately underthrow bombs to get a cheap 50 yards.

Golfers keeping their own score.
Makes absolutely no sense.
I can see reason to want to keep your own score but the idea that you can be penalized or disqualified for submitting or signing an incorrect card just seems ridiculous.

NBA - Bring Back 3 to make 2 foul shots.

Eh, no. This is one of the best things about baseball.

Holding not being a loss of down

Spiking the ball not being intentional grounding.

Well, they're not trying to avoid a sack...

This does make sense, but I'll wait for the annual WCA thread when it happens in a primetime/major game to debate further.

I guess in theory it nullifies the play, right? So how can you lose the down?

If you don't hold then the sack most likely would have happened.

Kickers having such a large roll in outcomes. I would prefer 2 pt field goals and a 3 point conversion option after a TD.
Also, 5 yds for holding, not 10.
On defense, PI is 20 yards or half the distance...whichever is greater.

Every defensive penalty in the nfl is automatic 1st down. So on 4th down, the defense gets called for illegal contact the offense is remedied with a new set of downs. It’s like if my car gets totaled, the insurance company has to give me 4 cars. It’s stupid.
