Yeah, he cannot be a critic because it is an actual fiasco.

No high speed exit to the north terminal where taxiway Foxtrot currently is for the old one. Aircraft that need to push back from the southern tips off the new terminal will come close to blocking the exit.
I can see aircraft exiting 11 on the south side to foxtrot and having to double back and re-cross the runway at some point if the following aircraft is close behind. More runway crossings is also a safety issue.
Fair enough. Foxtrot is ~7,000' from the threshold, which should be more than fine for most aircraft landing 11 to slow to make a left hand exit. Keep in mind, MSY is predominantly 737s and A320 family aircraft. If they do need the full length, then they can take it, but I don't recall seeing many planes require the full length today.
The push will not affect the runway exit/taxi way, you'll have dual taxi lanes so that you can push either east or west without affecting taxi lanes.
The bigger issue will be anything taking the full length of 29, would have to turn left onto Echo and cross at Charlie. Again, the only planes that may potentially need that are the wide body flights that operate a total of 8 times a week. Even then, 10,000' is more than enough runway to land and slow to turn off onto Alpha.

Never underestimate the level of incompetence in gov't. Ever.

Not saying they haven’t had hiccups with the process but google new Berlin airport and read about that shite show. The terminals been built since like 2014 and they still don’t know when they’re gonna open it. Ze germans are making Nola/LA look competent.

Wake turb sep isn't 5 minutes, that would be incredibly inefficient.
For a heavy or super 3-5 is the standard (I was referring to the A380 or 777). Obviously, a 737 is not going to have nearly that much space in-trail, but if a 737 needs the full 10,000', something went wrong.
Again, its not like these runways are pumping 70-80 operations an hour. It is closer to 30 at the peak.

I think we should hold our laughter at Germans until we actually get this thing open.

so, is there a person or group that we should all point at and laugh at? Who are the people responsible for this? should they be identified?

Louisiana isn’t last because of its government or politicians. Those are just symptoms of the true issue, the residents.

New airports are always a cluster frick. They'll get it figured out. Will just take some time. Anything's better than that mausoleum on Airline Hwy.

yep, a landing aircraft usually doesn't need a whole lot of concrete to land, the newer 737s typically have pretty high ref speeds to avoid tail strikes, don't think they can stretch that thing out any more

sadly, I wholeheartedly agree with this statement

Based on these taxi times from the article, the percentages make it sound far worse than it actually is.
Inbound taxi times (from runway to terminal) are longer than anything I have ever experienced in Atlanta.
Outbound are about equal to what I commonly experience in ATL.
NO ain't ATL
This is a clusterfrick of epic proportions

We use NMiles for aircraft in the air. The 2 and 3 minute rules are for departing a/c

Really? Have you landed on 10/28 in ATL and taxied up to the terminals? That is a 10-12 minutes, minimum. I've never had issues like that at MSY (save when a gate was occupied).

The next thing to happen is MSY will be like most of the airports in Russia where the plane parks away from the terminal, a group of workers roll a staircase up to the plane, everybody gets off using the stairs and then walk a quarter of a mile to the terminal building.
I've done this in Denver in 0 degree weather. Sucked.
That said, I have never felt like the taxi times are that long at MSY.

Right, but in the context of time between when a plane lands to when the next one lands (or departs if the same runway), minutes are easier to visualize why it won't matter if a large jet needs the entire 10,000'
