Aranda with the '12-'13 roster wouldn't allow 50 yds to those A&M teams.

for the last couple of years, anyone that had any questions or concerns about Ed Orgeron was called a hater and miserable. Now we have the #4 team, with an offense that has finally joined the 21st century. A legitimate Heisman contender at QB. For the first time in at least 4 years reason to think we could actually beat Alabama and win the SEC West. And here we have some guy speculating about what a QB that hasn't played CFB since 2013 would do to our current DC because our last DC shut him down. Now THIS my friends is an example of someone that is miserable and a hater.

JFF went for 42 against Alabama in 2013 that he lost of course is irrelevant. What ever happened to the Bama DC that day I wonder?

How many DL did Cahvis have drafted in his first 4 teams?

7

Dave has had 1 DL drafted so far. 2 if you count Arden Key.

Our issues begin and end with the DL.

It shouldn't be too hard to understand

Also John Chavis was always the highest paid DC in the country while he was here.

Chavis was the only coach to shut down Johnny football two years in a row. NFL coaches used the LSU game tapes. I shudder to think about what Johnny football in college would do to an Aranda defense.

Call me crazy, but I’m starting to get a sneaking suspicion that maybe you started this thread just for the reactions.

I wonder if it was becausep Chavis had Brockers, Mathieu. Mingo et al, none of which he got off his fat arse and recruited

Was Chavis better or did Chavis' defense have better statistics?

I ask because there is a difference...

It’s a good question but you’re asking the wrong person. OP clearly started this thread with a narrative in mind he didn’t really feel like having a discussion.

Aranda is not a bad DC, he just does not live up to expectations in real games. In theory he is pretty good.

They are both equal DCs in my book.

Forget comparisons to Chavis and anyone else. The question is, will Aranda get this defense fixed and looking like one coached by someone making the money he does? Time will tell, but the defense is badly underperforming so far. Yes injuries hurt, but that doesn't excuse how poorly this defense is playing. Reminds me of Lou Tepper days. I do think Aranda is capable of a lot better, and hope it turns around before it results in a lost game, when the offense can't outpace the points the defense is giving up.

Also the changing of offenses in the SEC has an impact.

Aranda needs to get his side of the ball fixed. Way too many mistakes.

However, the evolution of offenses makes stats look worse over time. I'm sure if you looked at the Defensive Stats for LSU DC Greg Williams in 1979 they would look pretty good. Would you trade Aranda for Greg Williams?

He was at his best with those amazing Tennessee defenses from 97-02.

Aranda is morphing into a high maintenance DC according to his defenders in this thread.

He needs three 1st rd DL, 4 Butkus award candidates at LB, and 3 1st round DBs to get a single stop in a half against the only offense with a pulse that we've played all year. When do the excuses end?

This team would be the decided front runner for a natty save for the defense.

And with the talent there, our D should be the best unit of all.

Dave needs to get his act together yesterday.

the 7 overtime game didn’t have anything to do with that right?

well, the fact Aranda couldn't stop A&M 7 times says a LOT!

So, this is unbelievably useless post.

Does anyone want Chavis back as our defensive coordinator?
If so, perhaps you should be rooting for Arkansas now. They suck!

LSU defense has its deficiencies currently. If they are not fixed eventually, Aranda will be looking for a new job.

I would much rather have Aranda as our DC rather than Chavis. End of story.

The fact that half our defense was out and tired also didn’t help in that game. It’s not as simple as go out and stop them after 3+ hours of football

i do think this is a major change, but Aranda/O have been here long enough for their recruits to emerge and they haven't recruited at the same level that Miles did...yet
