2009 great job rebuilding the defense and making them serviceable after the 2008 debacle. The defense was much better coached and played well fundamentally.
2010 Good defense. 12th nationally
2011 All time great defense. 2nd nationally
2012 Great defense through the first four games. 199.5 yards per game

2016 Great defense. Good job fixing the defense after the 2015 Kevin Steele debacle. 10th nationally
2017 Good defense. 14th nationally
2018 Defense faltered at times. 26th nationally
2019 Well.. not hot so far

Why didn't we drop 2.5 mil on Chavis?

Cause Chavis quit on us and started recruiting for A&M while still employed at LSU

Yeah I’m sure in 2018 the 7 overtime game didn’t have anything to do with that right? Also the changing of offenses in the SEC has an impact.

At the end of 2014. Long after the time period we’re talking about here.

Ask Arky fans what they think about Chavis.

So when should we have dropped $2.5M on him then?

And people complained about Chavis too. Remember 3rd and Chavis? Teams converted long 3rd downs like crazy on his D.

Just last year, everyone was all over Aranda as the best coordinator in the country and now we want to run him out of town.

What does that have to do with 2009-2012.

Total defense is a pretty weak stat, for one.

When? If you’re talking about after Chavis’ second year, it’s because it was a different time, Chavis was older and a rerun and didn’t have the same kind of leverage, demand and untold potential that Aranda did when we paid him up and still does. Those reasons come to mind immediately.

Are you using archaic and outdated stats like total defense or modern and reliable metrics like S&P+?

No one in the SEC plays 3 yards and a cloud of dust football anymore.

There. Refuted.

The numbers are just for reference. If people can’t see for themselves that 2011 and 2012 are better than 2018 and 2019 there’s nothing we can do to help them.

2010 and 2017 are a push.

2016 was better than 2009.

Pathetic like when they held Ga Southern to 3 points? Or pathetic when they shut out NW St in the second half? Or pathetic when they held Texas to 7 in the first half in Austin? Or did you mean pathetic when they forced Vandy to punt 8 times, and also picked the QB off twice?
