There was a time when LSU and Tulane were pretty big rivals.

LSU is in a different sports universe now and the overwhelming majority of Tulane students no longer come from Louisiana.

And Tulane got royally screwed on the unnecessary roughness call, but their defense came up big. I used to hate the Greenies, but not now. They'll never compete with LSU on the field or for recruits. Different universes. I hope they win this one.

I gotta give to them that was awesome in kneel down formation to run that fricking play was thumbs up. You gotta like coach Fritz for having the nuts to call that at that time. Good for them. At this point no matter what happens this year they just might look back at this game for rocketing their season.

Of course, but we're not talking ancient history like the Michigan-Chicago rivalry. We were still playing each other annually into the mid 90s. The baseball rivalry was still pretty huge into the 2000s.

Hell, we can get a home football game scheduled against any D-I school in the state right now, except for Tulane. And they price-gouged their home baseball games against us until the home-and-home was cancelled. There's still a passive bitchiness there.

The canyon between athletic programs can be acknowledged while understanding why there's still some lingering hate for them.

I really wish we had a reason to hate Tulane again. I want to play them on Thanksgiving weekend. I want a real rival and not the Big 12/Southwest conference sloppy seconds the SEC has force fed us since 92.

The manufactured Battle for the Boot was such a bore. We have no history with Arkansas and nobody would care if we never played them again. They don’t matter.

And now on “rivalry weekend” we’re forced to endure the screeches of Napoleon Syndrome University who is dying to make us a surrogate for their big brother UT. They want so badly for us to satiate their lust for sucking horns off a steer.

Even if they’d steal a recruit from time to time, I wish Tulane had never left the SEC. So much of what is special about college football is the history and the tradition. The history of hatred between us and Tulane is well-documented, but it has been forgotten and that’s a shame. Rivalries are fun and I wish we had one again.

But I guess one condition of a rivalry is that the series not be one-sided. Apart from a fluke Tommy Bowden situation, I don’t suppose Tulane would ever make it competitive enough for it to be a true rivalry again anyway.

Agreed. It's a shame they couldn't keep up their end of the bargain, and be somewhat relevant. Same with Ole Miss to a certain extent.

To be fair, Tulane has a better winning percentage against us than Oklahoma State has against OU. And their game is known as Bedlam. I think great rivalries can thrive, despite one-sidedness. Unfortunately, that didn't happen in our case.
