First, I’d like to wish Todd Harris good vibes. His injury looked bad and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s out for the year. Our corners are the strength in the back end and I think Stingley/Fulton combo is as good as it gets. Flott needs experience and time in the weight room but he has a bright future. I’m not really sure what we have after that, but hopefully those young guys get coached up. Safety is where I have concerns after the Harris injury. Delpit is a boss but he’s been quiet so far this year. Teams are avoiding him and going at other guys from what I’ve seen. Kary Vincent had a rough night and Jacoby seems to excel more around the box. I’m waiting on Eric Monroe to step up and maybe this will be his chance. I don’t trust Vincent or Cam Lewis to make plays from centerfield. We have the next few weeks to get this right, but our defense is not playing up to their potential in any way.

Vincent has had 2 really bad weeks in a row. Texas picked on him constantly which is one reason why Duvernay had such a huge game. Vincent looks confused and lost on the field.

i don't know about that. We made adjustments and we shut out Northwestern in the second half. We looked more like how we should look.

We'll continue to work out some kinks and our defense is typically our strong suit.

We'll be good. We play Vandy, then a bye, then Utah State before we play Florida. Plenty of time to work on things that need to be addressed.

I think Todd Harris has below average coverage skills but he is great in run support. I honestly think Monroe needs to be the starting free safety if he is healthy enough because Harris didn't look to impressive tonight or last week against Texas. He plays to aggressive and its like he always get called for pass interference.

Not even close to it.

Yea, but there is no experience behind them. Flott will be a very good player, but he needs time, something we don't have the luxury of.

Harris has poor ball skills. He just can't play the ball. Like last week on Texas' last TD drive when Harris tackled the receiver, had he looked back for the ball he could have intercepted it. And tonight, on the play he got hurt, he didn't need to lunge over the receiver, he had plenty of time to undercut the receiver and pick the ball. All these DB's leaving early has caught up with LSU. Joseph leaving just makes it worse. Fricking selfish little boob. I can understand leaving for the NFL, but leaving because you are not the starter? That's just a selfish and childish move, IMO. But, Aranda has talent on this team, he will find some players. Look for Marcel to get a lot of playing time.

Something is not clicking and I can't put a finger on it. We just seem to be out of position a lot and that concerns me moving forward.

They need to stick with Man to man on the outside and if Stevens can’t cover any better than he did last night, he’s a liability.

Jacob Phillips mentioned somewhere that the defense has been working on different coverages for the first 3 weeks based on the opponents offensive style, and says they haven't tried mixing things up to create confusion. I think there's a method to Aranda's calls and the shaky coverage. They're ironing out problems and finding what works. I expect the defense to be rock solid by the Florida game if they stay healthy because there's too much talent and Aranda is too good of a DC with a fully loaded, healthy defense.

Or maybe I'm just too optimistic.

I agree. LSU doesn't fix this defense, Florida is going to shred this defense to pieces. What concerns me? Almost no pass rush, especially from the edges. This was Northwestern (consolidated high school) right? These folks got beat by Midwestern whoever 33-7. Lost to UTM 42-20 before that. This North was not a very good team. Those LSU Lineman and L/B should have camped out in the North backfield all night long. Don't care how many starters were out.

Hummm?

Secondary needs to improve their communications, no doubt. With said the athletes are there to make plays. For them to be 'great' this season they need some help from the DL/OLBs, i.e. pass rush. Grant it last night we were without FOUR guys who generate most of our pass rush: KC, MD, Lawrence and Logan. We need the starting D to get back on the field, and work this out before the UF game. Pieces are there to be very good on D; just need to get them all pulling in the same direction.

The thing I don't really get is delpit and stephens are our safeties, why play them at a linebacker role? I say let our safeties play safety and see what happens. let our linebackers play in the box with 45 in coverage on occasion as he is the only lb that can cover. And man up with the cb's and let them play cb.

What do yall think is wrong with Delpit?? It's not like he's playing bad or anything but he definitely seems to be playing at a lesser level right now. Can't wrap up on tackles and just not making any plays. The whole defense just seems off to me.
