Thought the hire was dumb, thought it would lead to disaster and 3 wins max a season. But he made a bowl last year and just got a big road win against Sparty and is 3-0 so far. Still have the rest of the season to go but his tenure so far has exceeded my expectations.

Agreed. That hire was criticized by everyone, and so far, he has done well.

the biggest thing with herm is he thought he was going to be pure CEO and they'd keep their OC and lost him immediately to ULL

Looks like a solid hire. I thought he would fail miserable recruiting and have all losing seasons.
I dont think they gonna be competing for pac 12 championships anytime soon, but who knows what can happen in the future

Said in the hiring thread that I thought he would do really well as a “father figure “ type coach for a lot of these young guys. Just a solid dude and glad it’s working for him.

I never understood why people were so certain he was going to bomb.
I always thought he could be an incredible recruiter.

It seems like Sparty’s offense has been the drizzling shits for several seasons now

I was looking forward to seeing him on the sideline, but I did not think he would be successful.

In retrospect, this hire made perfect sense.
Herm Edwards was a well known football commentator who had some success at the NFL level. His greatest strength was his ability to motivate: the single biggest component to winning at the college level.
His fame and track record enable him to recruit well. His experience as a player and coach will likely limit mistakes.
Arizona State clearly got this one right.

I’ll eat crow on both Herm and Chip Kelly.
I couldn’t been more wrong on those two if I tried
