Lest we forget Danny had guys open all night against Alabama in 2017 and couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.

Etling can make 1/3 of the throws Joe can.
Posted on 9/11/19 at 10:14 pm to slackster
It would take Etling 3 games to get to 471 yards

How did this turn into an Etling v Burrow thread?

He would have been good but Joe is awesome.
Both guys have heart, both can scramble, both handsome but that Burrow release tho

2.
Etling has gone from overrated to underrated on this board of late. He was throwing for 190/gm when we were archaic. Joe was 220/gm last year.
Burrow can make more throws than Etling, that's undeniable, but this offense gives you plenty of options regardless.

Every QB we ever had would have been better under this offense. None would have been as good as Burrow but they all would have been better than they were. The old system was extremely unfriendly to passing QBs. The crazy thing is, it was a good system for a running QB and Les recruited a lot of duel threat QBs, he just never utilized them as runners. Had we utilized the QB run more often, with the stud running backs we had, it was prime for setting up misdirection running plays where the ball could be handed off to the back who ran one way or the QB could have kept it and run the other way or still had the option to launch a long ball for the stud receivers we had.
I never understood the penchant Les had for recruiting duel threat QBs but forcing them to be pocket passers.

I love Louisiana people. They think with their heart instead of their brain.
Etling was extremely slow with his decision making. Too much so for this offense.

I guess you didn’t see Chark Sunday. Guy can ball.

Chark ran 1 route GB
He’d be good in this offense as the 3rd guy but not the WR1
Mentioned Chark in a post earlier today. Would love to have him in this offense. As good as the trio we have is, vertical speed isn't really their game. Chark would have been a perfect compliment to what the current group does so well.
Also, I had nearly purged those throws that Etling noodle armed to Chark in the 2017 game. Thanks to the poster above for bringing those up.

Nah, you just overrate the frick out of him

I’m not bagging on Chark. That is just what he is. He’d be a perfect compliment, just not versatile enough to be “the guy”

Which is a brand new development. I was considered a hater while he was here.

Goes to show you how much people have flipped on him.

Ole noodle arm might've been a bit better in this O. But let's not kid ourselves, he was a very limited QB

Absolutely no comparison. Burrow.
I don’t think anyone is arguing otherwise. OP is just asking if Etling would’ve been good in this offense. And I think he’s have been ok. Certainly he would’ve been better than he was in the Stone Age scheme but he wouldn’t be doing anything special. This scheme still requires a talented QB.

I admired Danny Etling for his work ethic, but he had neither the arm strength nor the quick quarterback intellect of Joe Burrow. I don't visualise him completing the spectacular 3rd & 17 pass in such a crucial point of the game.

Imagine Fournette and Guice in this offense

Poor Danny?! He made the decision to come to LSU, he should have been smarter like all the other good QB’s in the country and stayed far away from Miles... the QB killer
