Don’t take it from me. Take it from Ryan Theriot.
LINK

ETA: For the record I used to live there and love Austin, but Ryan’s take was worth a share.

My parents love the scenery of Austin but don’t like the politics there.

My son lives there and he's sick to death of the homeless moving in.

I guess if you don't get off the farm much, it's weird. It's really just an average city with some cool outdoor bars full of suburban white people and stories of how it used to be.

Thus the saying "Keep Austin Weird" that is posted everywhere around the city.

You must have noticed one of the signs/stickers.

Surely he knows that the cathedral of junk is just a pile of junk and has nothing whatsoever to do with worship. It has been around for ages and predates the smelly California hipster migration to Austin.

I felt like I needed to spray lotion on the homeless after checking their pulse making sure they were alive.

It's shows that he's narrow minded and biased. Austin is consistently ranked as one of the most desirable US cities for living.
I hate UT and I am not a big fan of the State of Texas but Austin has much to offer and UT itself is one of the finest public universities in the country.
You can find "weird" people (whatever the hell that references) everywhere. Just because they're different doesn't make them weird. Just because they may have different political or societal views doesn't make them weird.
Damnit, stick to the game and sports.

I’ve visited Austin once, that was enough. People talk about the bars and atmosphere, but I’d go to Nashville and Charleston any day over Austin.

Zip lining over Lake Travis was fun though!

The area in and around Lake Travis is beautiful and fun! Just hate the Liberal Left in that scene!

you all do realize that if 99.999 % of the world visited Austin and then visited Baton Rouge, they would choose Austin as the place they would love, right?

Austin is a damn cool city. Don’t agree that it’s the #1 city to live in the USA but many ratings have it right there. Here all day yesterday, all over the city...Fabulous food, cool people, snobby people (Texas fans suck) and saw not one homeless person.

The Texas fan stereotypes are true. ‘Go TIGERS’ results in,...well, nothing - absolutely nothing, not even eye contact.

It is a liberal, progressive, socialist and democrat stronghold. You should know the outcome of their policies and what the town will generally look like before arriving.
