I lived in Baton Rouge for 10 years and just about every other major metro in LA before moving to Austin

There’s no comparison. Louisiana is so far behind it’s not even worth arguing and the only people that refuse to admit it always have to fall back on weak political insults because that’s all they’ve got

There’s definitely a homeless problem here but it’s not isolated to Austin. It’s just about any metro at this point. On the whole it’s a great and vibrant city where it’s easy to make a lot of money and have a great time.

Lighten up Francis there are issues with any city especially the fastest growing city in the country. There are kinks to work out and Governor Abbott is on it.

I’ve always loved Austin, even when it became fashionable to bash Austin. It’s better than Baton Rouge in every measurable way except Baton Rouge has much warmer human beings and is less transient. But that’s like a very small part of the comparison.

Lol, I found the person who actually uses those damn things. Do you really think they’re a good idea?

Austin is a great city. I love the surrounding areas as well. Go float the river, go hiking, swimming holes, lakes, great golf. Also a great food and drink scene.

I don’t get the people from BR ripping it. Doesn’t make sense but whatever.

The current issue with the homeless is a recent city ordinance scale back that basically lets them camp anywhere.

Adler’s swan song because he’s term limited and doesn’t have to face the voters again.

Reasons like the above are why I live in the burbs.

Accurate. People that have an outside perspective of Louisiana see this. It suffers from people who do not venture farther than Gulf shores from home.

I hope everyone visiting Austin has a blast and the Tigahs whup dat a$$. After LSU and 23 years in BR, moving to Austin has been awesome professionally and for my family. I love me some BR but the vibe is more dynamic here.

As a veteran and conservative I wish it wasn't so liberal but we can deal. Lots of our friends here are from all over the SEC and out west, so it's not all Longhorns and wackos all the time. Tons of stuff to do, more cool bars than I could ever visit, awesome food, jobs everywhere, caters to families and also singles, it offers a quality of life that is hard to beat. It has issues with growth that are difficult to manage, but the positives far outweigh the negatives.

My brother, we are talking about a city whose main attraction is bats living under a bridge.

A city with a notoriously overrated music scene...Quick, in twenty words or less describe a distinctive Austin sound.

A city with just under a million residents and yet with just one interstate running thru it...Hmm! sounds familiar? Where's the infrastructure? Where's the light rail? Where's that progressive can do spirit.

Having lived in San Francisco for six years, I can say that Austin is indeed liberal...COMPARED TO PLACES LIKE WACO, LUBBOCK AND AMARILLO.

If dining with people in flip flops and t-shirts in "upper scale restaurants" appeals to you, then Austin is the place for you. It's like your teenage kid that refuses to grow the frick up until that inevitable day when they realize that Austin really isn't all that cool.

...But hey, keep Austin weird.

Was just out on 6th at Buffalo Billiards. Saw several big groups of LSU fans walk by. Definitely a presence being made in the city already.

Working for Apple, I’ve been flying to Austin since 2011. It is a fun city with good food and bars. It is an educated city with lots of transplants.

The homeless problem has indeed become a lot worse over the last several years. Tent settlements are growing. If the city doesn’t take proactive measures there will be huge swaths of tent camps like in CA.
