Just heard them. I was wondering what the noise was. Looked up in the sky and saw a couple of tiny dots quickly disappearing in the distance.

but seriously...Do they just decide, "hey, lets go make a round around LSU or anywhere for that matter"?

If I had access to one, that's exactly what I would be doing every chance I had.

Sometimes they have designated routes/missions, but it isn't out of the ordinary for them to be flying to maintain a certain number of hours in the air and often times they have more latitude in those cases.

How awesome. Can you imagine?

"Yea here's an F16, we need you to go joyride for a bit. Try not to go supersonic over populated areas, k? Have fun!"

They made a nice loop around the capitol campus, got a good look at one banking around.

We often get flights on approach to BTR overhead. Sitting in the office, my first thought was that one was way too low or in trouble. Wasn't expecting to see a fighter jet pulling away from a low pass.

Interesting tidbit: often when they do stuff like that, they're practicing lining up bombing or strafing runs on easy to pick out landmarks. The pilots and planes are deployed from normal airbases without bombing ranges. Pilots have got to keep their skills up somehow, so when they actually get flying time, no matter what the actual real reason they're flying is, they'll work in ways to hone their skills.

Tiger Stadium gets imaginary bombed into the stone age on a regular basis.

So this St. George business is about to be settled, the easy way.

Hah. I don't think it is quite that open ended. but I know they enjoy it.

Usually F-15s out of the base in Belle Chasse are what you see in BR.
