We took my son to the pediatrician yesterday. While waiting, 4 families in a row checked in, and I could overhear that all 4 had medicaid. So I looked it up, and approximately 1.4 million people in LA are on medicaid/CHIP. That is about 1/3 of the population.

That is absolutely outrageous.

And youd be shocked how many middle class f250 baws have their kids on medicaid

Why waste money on health insurance for your kids when you could buy a bass boat?

Yeah CHIP allows kids to qualify in households that make too much for Medicaid for the whole family.

Yeah but couldn't that also be Medicare? I mean...no shocker...old people over 65 need lots of prescription meds.

That Medicare Part D crap George W. Clintonbush signed into law robs the taxpayer to buy dying grannies overpriced Xarelto and whatnot. It's socialism in its most disgusting form. I'd rather pay for Medicaid.

I’m sure it is, but to the OPs point, we have a ton of poor people in our state.

You better get used to it. It’s the future. I saw a headline yesterday that over 70 million jobs in the US could be lost to automation by 2030. I definitely don’t like the current public assistance system where you just get cash for being poor, it kills the individual ambition and creativity that this country was built on. However I don’t see how we get around a massive expansion of wealth redistribution. The machines are just going to render too many people worthless to the economy at once and they’re only going to keep getting better at doing jobs we used to do.

It was surprising when I first learned that the illegals here can just waltz in to the UMC’s and other “charity” hospitals and receive a bunch of treatment billed to, in some cases, probably fake or “borrowed” patient information.

Which is why I don't see why he was so shocked by the numbers of people on Medicaid. It's common knowledge Louisiana has a lot of poor people living there.

So, you're upset that a child, who has nothing to do with his or her economic condition, is able to get medical services similar to your child?

It's a sad future you foresee, then. Many see this as some utopia that frees people up to pursue their dreams, like art and music - which sounds all well and good except that we already have people who are worthless to society on handouts and they ain't making art.

Want even more outrage? Start thinking about the economics of what unlimited funds do to price when Supply and Demand both remain relatively constant. Then look at how much your bill is (including what insurance covers).

Democrats rule a state in all aspects for 90+% of its existence, and people are shocked the majority of the citizens are poor and uneducated.

Welcome to reality.

PS - I am also to blame as I voted Democrat the majority of my life.

With zero knowledge of why they are on govt healthcare.

Some conditions are put on Medicare due to the sickness or condition. No matter the economic situation.

But praise the Lord someone's doctor doesn't help those kids.
